Summary

A skilled and artisticPokemonfan creates a series of drawings depicting various Pokemon from generations one and two in the style of Van Gogh’s Starry Night. There are nine Van Gogh-inspiredPokemonimages in total, all of which are a must-see for anyPokemonfan who is into classic art.

There are very few franchises in video games that have inspired as much fantasticfan art asPokemon. Fans of the long-standing franchise love to pay tribute to their favorite Pokemon by inventing new evolutions for the characters or placing them in other forms of classic or modern art. Engaging colors, dynamic compositions, and attention to detail are often characteristics of greatPokemonfan art.

Reddit user siinastah posted an image of their collection of original fan art that resembles Van Gogh’s Starry Night to thePokemonsubreddit. Siinastah explained that they created thisPokemonfan artusing Apple’s iPad app Procreate and Adobe Photoshop to draw and color each one. The image chooses a bunch of different Pokemon, including some final formations. These include Blastoise, the Water-type introduced in generation one; Charizard, the Fire and flying type, also from generation one; Tyranitar, the generation 2 Rock and Dark type that looks like a dinosaur; and Gengar, the Ghost and Poison generation one Pokemon.

The image also showcases a fewlegendary and mythical Pokemon like Lugia, the Psychic and flying type first introduced in generation two. Mew and Mewtwo, the psychic types from generation one, are also depicted in this style, with Mewtwo looking intimidating and Mew staring innocently up at the sky.

The last twoPokemon are Cubone and Umbreon. Cubone, the lonely Rock Pokemon stares longingly at the starry sky, perhaps thinking of its missing mother. Umbreon, the Dark type Eevee evolution, looks like it’s scared of something outside the frame.

These Van Gogh-inspired drawings appeared at the perfect time, as The Pokemon Company had to apologize to its fans for a recentPokemonexhibit at the Van Gogh Museum. At the event, fans of the franchise were expecting to pick up thePokemonpromo card, “Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat,” but scalpers raided the area first. Later that day, the Van Gogh-inspired promo card sold for absurd prices on eBay, frustrating the fanbase. Hopefully, the Starry NightPokemonfan art can cheer up some of the fans who feel slighted.
