“Nothing is true, everything is permitted” is a key tenant to the titular creed of theAssassin’s Creedfranchise, meaning that it is difficult with all the senses to discern between truth and lies and that one’s existence must see the world from more than an individualistic viewpoint. As such, this is also a good way to approach the plethora ofAssassin’s Creed 2020rumors, leaks, and even teases for the upcoming game.

After all, Ubisoft has a way of teasing information about its upcoming games within the same franchise or even in other properties. The most clear example of this is when players discovered aviking tease inDivision 2, leading to corroborations and rumors that the franchise was going to the Viking Era. Much is still unknown about the game, but if there is anything permitted here, then it’s most likely about vikings. Everything else is up to interpretation, but the Viking Era is surprising for a multiple of reasons, one major one being that, well, it’s never been hinted before.

The franchise has had several teases throughout the years, some outlining a ton of possible locations to explore and others being more direct, but before theDivision 2tease, the idea of anAssassin’s Creedviking game wasn’t floated around as much. With hindsight, it’s possible to see Otso Berg and Shay Patrick Cormac teasing the setting, but it was nothing concrete, at least in comparison to other teases.

Assassin Creed 4’s Abstergo E-Mail

Back in 2013, Ubisoft releasedAssassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, with fans eventually discovering the above Abstergo e-mail. Many say this as a tease for various upcoming games, or at the very least, a tease for a couple with a few Red Herrings. Many of these had already been explored or would be explored soon, but there’s a few notable absences.

Breaking it down, Ezio Auditore covered the Italian Renaissance and Ottoman Empire across his trilogy, with Connor taking part in the War for Independence.Assassin’s Creed Roguedeals with the American Colonies as well, while 19th century New England and the American Midwest go unexplored. Looking at the Matrilineal line, Altair covered the Holy Land and Cusades, while Arno Dorian was present during the French Revolution. The Napoleonic Wars are mentioned inAssassin’s Creed Unity, and while the time period is not correct, the mention of Egypt could be a tease forAssassin’s Creed Origins.

The notable exceptions, then, are the Midwest, the Ashikaga Shogunate, and the Summer of Love. There’s not much rumblings around the Midwest tease, as that’s most likely a Red Herring and would becompared heavily toRed Dead Redemption. The other two, though, are interesting. Namely because, by Ubisoft’s own admission, a Japanese game like the Ashikaga Shogunate has been one of the most highly demanded settings. It’s possible that Ubisoft has something in the works and is just waiting out the current saturation of Samurai-based games, but it’s almost a shoe-in by demand…eventually.

The Summer of Love is another interesting mention, as it would be the most modern setting explored yet. However, a recentAssassin’s Creed"leak" detailed aSyndicate-like gameset in the Summer of Love, which actually makes a lot of sense mechanically. The leak is more than likely nonsense made up via this Abstergo e-mail, but it’s not a bad consideration.

Assassin’s Creed 3 Set Up a Trilogy

To throw out even more teases that shouldn’t be accepted as fact isAssassin’s Creed 3. The above image appears in-game, which would seemingly denote a series of games. After all, the series is often broken down into various trilogies and connections. There’s the Ezio trilogy, the North American collection, the Kenway trilogy, the Helix Player series, and so on and so forth. Ergo, the above image has manifested in two games: The Eye of Horus (Assassin’s Creed Origins), the Omega Symbol (Assassin’s Creed Odyssey), but the third is a Japanese Torri. That does not correlate with the believed, upcomingAssassin’s Creed Ragnarokgame.

Assassin’s Creedis avoiding its best time period and settingby not visiting Japan, but there’s little doubt that the Viking Era game could prove to be a good playground for the series' latest iterations. When it does release, though, fans should remember that “nothing is true” if it contains any more teasers.
