Summary

Ubisoft teases a big December update forAssassin’s Creed Miragewhich includes numerous fan-requested features like New Game Plus and Permadeath. ModernAssassin’s Creedtitles moved away from the more-stealth action gameplay of the older games in favor of more sprawling open worlds to explore, heavier emphasis on RPG mechanics, mixed in with live service elements that included a rotating in-game cosmetic shop. While theAssassin’s Creedseries continued to perform well for Ubisoft, many in the community sought a return to the old ways.

Thankfully, Ubisoft seemingly heard the community when developingAssassin’s Creed Mirage, originally set to be an expansion toValhalla, but eventually became its own standalone title. After launching back in October,Assassin’s Creed Miragereturned the series back to its roots, taking inspiration from the original games and ditching the emphasis on RPG and massive open-world mechanics. Instead, players roamed 9th century Baghdad as Basim, learning his origin story and how he ultimately became the individual players saw him as in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Even without a heavy focus on live service, Ubisoft continues to update the game with new content and the upcoming December patch may be its biggest one yet.

Over on social media, the officialAssassin’s Creedaccount gave fans a brief glimpse into what’s coming within the December update. The first thing mentioned is the arrival of New Game+ through a free update in December, something fans have been heavily requesting sinceAssassin’s Creed Miragelaunched in October.

Alongside NG+, the post also mentioned another new game mode coming in the form of Permadeath. While intended to add an extra layer of challenge for players who may consider themselves more of an expert, the social media post indicates that permadeath will likely be a toggle that can be enabled on any difficulty the player chooses. More details are expected for the update in general at a later date, butpermadeath likely functions in a similar way to other games likeDiablo 4where if the character dies, it’s a full game over with zero continues.

While the news should make players happy, especially those looking for an added challenge, this isn’t the first instance of Ubisoft responding to feedback. In fact, earlier this month,Assassin’s Creed Miragereceived Update 1.0.5which also added another fan requested feature in the form of accessibility options for colorblind players. Specifically, a new setting allows players to enable or disable chromatic aberration.
