Avatar: Frontiers of Pandorapre-orders seem to be going live soon. Last year Disney finally releasedAvatar: The Way of Water, the long-anticipated sequel to James Cameron’s record-breaking sci-fi action movieAvatar, which went on to become the highest grossing film of all time. In the run-up to its release, Ubisoft announcedAvatar: Froniters of Pandora, a video game spin-off set in the world of Pandora that has still yet to see an official release after a few delays. Now, it appears the game is finally gearing up for release.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandorawas announced in 2017, when Ubisoft studio Massive Entertainment, the developer ofThe Divisionseries, revealed that it was beginning development on a video game set in the universe of James Cameron’sAvatar.Frontiers of Pandorawas showcased through an in-engine teaserreleased in 2021, that revealed that the game will be a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S generation exclusive title. The game was planned to release in 2022, which would put it around the release ofAvatar: The Way of Water, but it was later delayed to a vague 2023/2024 time frame.

Nothing surroundingAvatar: Frontiers of Pandorahas been seen officially since that E3 2021 teaser, but it appears that Ubisoft will begin promoting the game soon, as a Twitter user with access to Ubisoft’s digital storefront backend has claimed that pre-orders will soon go live forAvatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The user also shared an image of the game’s pre-order bonuses which includes a DLC pack titled “The Child of Two Worlds Pack” that contains a cosmetic set and a weapon skin.
Very little is known aboutwhatAvatar: Frontiers of Pandorawill adapt from the film series, outside of recent confirmation that the game will be a standalone story set duringAvatar: The Way of Water’s six-month time skip. The game is being developed directly alongside Lightstorm Entertainment, the production company co-founded by James Cameron, with Cameron supervising the game’s narrative elements. It’s not yet known which parts of Pandora will be available to explore, but the game will be an open-world action adventure game, which many players have speculated will resemble Ubisoft’sFar Cryseries.
There is a lot of potential in the world of Pandora to be reflected through video games, and coming off the major success ofAvatar: The Way of Water,Frontiers of Pandorahas a huge name to live up to, but could potentially be one ofthe biggest successes of 2023 in the way that WB Games’Hogwarts Legacyhas been. How Ubisoft intends to reveal the gameplay, be it a trailer release or at a showcase event, remains a mystery.
