Summary
A brand-newBaldur’s Gate 3mod has turned the game into a roguelike, switching the focus away from the RPG mechanics completely. While thisBaldur’s Gate 3mod won’t be for everyone, it certainly puts a fresh spin on the gameplay and is well worth trying out.
TheBaldur’s Gate 3modding scene has quickly turned into one of the most creative communities around. It makes sense - Larian’s RPG provides a fantastic slate from which to build, and so far it has been achieved without official modding tools. It’s still relatively early days, but it’s beginning to resembleSkyrim’s modding community, where there’s an abundance of mods with something for everyone. One recentBaldur’s Gate 3mod even turned companions into Gen Z Zoomers, which is as strange as it sounds.

The mod, titled “Trials of Tav,” is available onNexus Modsfrom user Hippo0o. It completely changesBaldur’s Gate 3into a combat-only mode, where players must “fight waves of enemies in progressively harder encounters,” much like a roguelike game. Each fight drops random loot, as well as a new currency that players can use to unlock new power-ups. These combat encounters feature over 250 enemies across 38 maps taken from the base game, giving an experience that no otherBaldur’s Gate 3modis able to offer. It can even be played with friends for a cooperative experience, or in Honour Mode for something a little more punishing.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Roguelike Mod
The mod is great for players who enjoy playing with many of thefun overpowered builds inBaldur’s Gate 3. Creating a similar build in this roguelike mode will prove a little more challenging, as leveling and finding items don’t quite work in the same way as they do in the base game. However, the same principles still apply, and it’ll be interesting to see how these overpowered builds carry over when facing wave after wave of enemies.
If this is what modders can create without the official mod tools, the sky is the limit when they’re finally released. The good news is that players don’t have much longer to wait for this.Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 7 will add official modding tools, with a release date currently set for some time in September. It promises to be the biggest update for the game yet, and the mod tools are sure to have a huge impact for many years to come. It’ll take some time for the modders to get used to the new tools, but once they get to grips with them,Baldur’s Gate 3’s modding community is sure to go up another level.
