Reports and rumors swirling that comedian Aziz Ansari’s showMaster of Nonemay return to Netflixafter a nearly four-year hiatus. While the show had long been feared canceled after season two over the controversy surrounding Ansari himself, a new report from UK comedy siteChortlehas reported that the third season is in the works after all.

Master of Noneis a Netflix comedy-drama show starring Ansari as Dev Shah, an actor struggling with his romantic and professional life. The first two seasons were highly acclaimed and won two Emmys and a Golden Globe. When the second season ended, Ansari said in interviews that he needed to go through some life changes before writing a third season, to find more inspiration.

Shortly after those statements though,Ansari was involved in a controversysurrounding his own romantic life. Accused of sexual misconduct during a date, Ansari found himself a talking point during the #MeToo movement about the gray areas of consent, with widespread controversy over how Ansari and his accuser should have handled the situation. As a result, Ansari stepped back from the spotlight, andMaster of Nonewas put on the backburner.

Despite the controversy,Netflix stood behind the comedian, saying they would be happy to haveMaster of Nonereturn when Ansari was ready. Ansari himself has reportedly been writing season 3 during the lockdown, and presumably, they will be able to start filming soon as the Coronavirus pandemic starts to slow down and restrictions on filming are loosened worldwide.

The first season ofMaster of Nonewas filmed in New York, with the second season taking place in both New York and Italy. Reports indicate that the third season is set in London, and that the production had actually already begun before the lockdowns forced the team to stop filming.

Without wishing to spoil, the ending of season 2 saw Ansari’s character on the cusp of yet another major life change, so it would make sense for the story to pick up in a new location. While the reports are currently not official, it does seem likeMaster of Nonemay be gearing up for a return after all, which will no doubt be exciting for fans who have long awaited the third season.
