The title, published by Japanese giant Square Enix, has a long history of delays. It was initially promised for 2019 but only entered beta testing just a few months ago. Fortunately, the demo is finally coming to Playstation 4 and 5 on February 25, ahead of the game’s expected launch on March 3. In a manner not dissimilar toMonster Hunter, players choose which quest to try and team up with up to three others, with the goal of defeating wave after wave of enemies, collecting loot, and repeating the cycle; as typical of the genre, combat is the main activity, and grinding will be a little easier with the developers promising one month of free Premium Battle Pass content to all players.
Speaking of combat,Babylon’s Fallpromises a refreshing take to the genre, despite the game levels of the beta testing being quite linear. The main novelty is the so-calledGideon Coffin, a magical box which the Sentinels carry on their back, and which allows for special abilities to be used. With it, the player can, for example, wield two additional weapons - potentially fighting with four at once - or employ peculiar powers like mobility buffs and life-draining spells. As such, the Coffin promises high replayability and customization of one’s own playstyle, letting gamers make hybrid classes with little effort.
Being a much-awaited title from well known and successful developers,Babylon’s Fallhas to keep its promises. During the beta-testing, several critical issues emerged, such as fans discovering the rather widespreadrecycling ofFinal Fantasy 14content, the solo difficulty being unbearable, and the hand-painted graphic style being poorly readable. The core component of the game - the fighting - seemed solid, at least.
Back in October, Square Enix announced a wave of fixes and changes based onBabylon’s Fallbeta’s feedback. Fans will soon see in the demo if the title has been polished enough to meet their expectations.
Babylon’s Fallwill release on Windows, Playstation 4 and 5 on March 3. The demo will be available on Playstation 4 and 5 on February 25.
