Summary
Baldur’s Gate 3has plenty of interesting methods to handle combat. From up-close melee damage to lethal spells, there are various ways for classes to deal with the foes they face. However, in some situations, other tools should be usedto handle combat; grenades can be bought, found, or crafted by a player and then thrown to either deal damage or plenty of other effects.

There are various grenades to be found inBaldur’s Gate 3(BG3)as long as the player has the carrying capacity for them. Therefore, these are by far the best grenades that players should be using inBaldur’s Gate 3.
8Void Bulb
Void Bulbs do the least amount of damage out of the grenades that are expected to hurt an opponent; however, this is not the main purpose of this grenade. Players are likely to obtain these sorts of grenades at the start of the game, as they can be found on the corpses of dead Mindflayers and Fiends. When thrown, these grenades pull the surrounding enemies and allies to their location.
This then makes it easier for an ally to hit all the group enemies at once withan AOE spell. Alternately, a player could throw another grenade –one that deals damage– to put an end to the group of enemies.

7Acid Vial
Although it is referred to as a vial, thisAcid Vialis still considered a grenade inBaldur’s Gate 3.Players can choose to directly throw the vial at an opponent to possibly damage them for two d6 ofacid damageor aim for the ground instead.
What makes the Acid Vial such an interesting grenade choice is its lingering effects. Where the grenade has hit will leave a puddle of acid on the ground; this means that any character that finds itself inside the acid or walking past it will also take the two d6 of damage.

6Fungal Bamboozler
Some grenades even mimic powerful spells that some classes can cast; one such example of this is theFungal Bamboozlergrenades. When an opponent is hit by this Fungal Grenade, they have the possibility of being hit with the status effect of Befuddled.

This is exactly like the spell confusion, and therefore, while the character has this effect, they are unable to move and have a disadvantage on both their attack rolls and dexterity saving throws. Meanwhile, any character that attempts to hit the affected opponent will have an advantage on their attack rolls to make the bamboozled foe an easy target.
5Alchemist’s Fire
Another great early-game grenade players are likely to be using a lot is Alchemist’s Fire. This is essentially the fantasy equivalent of a Molotov, as once the bottle of fire hits the ground, it will ignite an area and the people within it in flames.
Although it only does one d4 offire damage, it can still be used to create distance between the player and their opponent in difficult situations while also targeting multiple foes at once. Overall, Alchemist’s Fire is a great grenade for the first Act and then used later for setting off traps.

4Web Grenade
Web is arguably one of the most overpowered terrain effects in the entirety ofBG3. While it is much better when it is used by a Druid transformed into a Spider or a Ranger with a Spider Companion, the Web Grenade is still a must for any other party member.
Throwing this grenade on the ground will cover the floor in webs; those that attempt to walk through it must succeed on a Dexterity Saving throw, or they become enwebbed. While stuck in the spider’s silk, the victim’s dexterity and attack rolls have disadvantages, and they are unable to move. Anyone attacking the person enwebbed has advantage.

3Haste Spore Grenade
Haste Spore Grenade is another grenade that mimics the effects ofa powerful spellinBaldur’s Gate 3. When thrown onto the ground, an area is affected by spores that will speed up the character when they are within them.

This allows the player or their party members to move at a faster rate when they’ve passed through it and, therefore, walk –or dash– farther. While this may not seem that useful in some situations, having the distance between the players' team and an enemy can help keep the party alive.
2Smokepowder Satchel
Unlike the other grenades mentioned on the list, the Smokepowder Satchel does not explode on impact. Although a player can throw this grenade, it’s far better suited for setting up traps. Once the satchel of explosive powder has been set down, a torch orFire Boltcan be aimed at the bag to ignite its contents.
Once hit by fire, the one-time-use satchel will explode, hitting any enemy in its vicinity for three d4 plus nine force damage. The only way to avoid this damage is by succeeding ina dexterity roll, though this is unlikely.

1Smokepowder Bomb
As the big brother of the Smokepowder Satchel,Smokepowder Bombis by far the best grenade in the whole ofBaldur’s Gate 3. Unlike the satchel the player doesn’t need to ignite it to make the explosive go off, as itwill instantly explodewhen it has made contact with another person or creature.
It does, however, do less damage than the Satchel as it instead deals three d4 plus three force damage to an opponent; this grenade once again requires a dexterity save to avoid the damage. When attempting to avoid using spells or getting close, the Smokepowder bomb is a must for any group of enemies.

Baldur’s Gate 3is out now on PC and is set to release on September 6th, 2023, for PlayStation 5; an Xbox Series X/S release date is yet to be announced.
