While the Rogue is a popular class for multiclassing inBaldur’s Gate 3, it’s normally used as a dip to support another class. However, when it comes to builds that put Rogue first, there are still some great options with the right combination. One of these builds combines Rogue with theBaldur’s Gate 3Warlockclass to guarantee Sneak Attack every turn as well as enhance damage and survivability.

The Devil’s Sight Rogue build uses its levels in Warlock (specifically, the subclassThe Great Old One) to gainaccess to the Darkness spelland theDevil’s Sight Eldritch Invocation. This allows the character to create an area of magical darkness which only they can see through, allowing them to make all of their attacks with Advantage and to impose Disadvantage on all enemy attacks.

The Devil’s Sight Rogue: Levels 1-6

The Devil’s Sight Rogue buildstarts out as a Rogue at level 1,giving players an extra Skill Proficiency and access to Hand Crossbows, Rapiers, Longswords, and Shortswords. Players should verify to set theirDexterity and Charisma to 16during character creation, followed by Constitution forConcentration Saving Throws.

The Rogue can select four Skills during character creation. Players who want to focus on Charisma Skills may want to hold off on taking Deception and Persuasion, as these Skills can be acquired later using the Beguiling Influence Eldritch Invocation. Baldur’s Gate 3 Action Economy Explained Regular Standard Action Sneak Attack Astarion Rogue

There are two ways to build the Devil’s Sight Rogue, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The first is to focus ondual-wielding Hand Crossbows, picking up the Thief Rogue subclass for the extra Bonus Action and also taking the Sharpshooter Feat. The second is to take the Arcane Trickster subclass for extra spell slots, while using aShortbow,Light Crossbow, orRapieralong with the Pact of the Blade to make attacks using Charisma instead of Dexterity. Here’s how each of those options work, level by level.

Option 1: Thief

This first option is all about raw damage, with three Hand Crossbow attacks per turn on top of the massive damage boost from Sharpshooter.

Option 2: Arcane Trickster

This option trades raw damage for better spell-casting. However, make sure to pickArcane Trickster spellsthat don’t require attack rolls or saving throws. This build doesn’t have the Intelligence that characters require to make full use of them, since it relies on Dexterity and Charisma.

The Devil’s Sight Rogue: Levels 7-12

In later levels, the Devil’s Sight Rogue unlocks 3rd level Warlock spells, as well as some of the best defensive features from the Rogue. While the build does miss out on a third Feat, its easy access to Advantage should more than make up for the loss. The end result is a character with incredible Skills, the ability to evade both single and area attacks, and great damage output witha 4d6 Sneak Attackand Sharpshooter.

This option takesPact of the Chainas its Warlock Pact to gainaccess to the Quasit Familiar, which can be used to scout and trigger surprise rounds using its at-will Invisibility spell. Triggering surprise rounds in this way will allow the Devil’s Sight Rogue to cast Darkness and make two off-hand Hand Crossbow attacks before the enemy gets a chance to act.
