How to Get the Spineshudder Amulet

The Spineshudder Amulet is available during Act 2 ofBaldur’s Gate 3. This means that before looking to acquire this item, you will need to progress through the first section of the game and completeAct 1to your liking, including any extra quests and theUnderdarkorMountain Passareas. Once you have made it into Act 2, head toMoonrise Towers, either led bythe Drider Kar’nissor by navigating the Shadow-Cursed Lands on your own.

Once you arrive at Moonrise Towers, make your way up to the first floor andaccess Ketheric’s room. This room will be locked and guarded by several Cultists of the Absolute. To bypass these obstacles, it will come in handy if you have a highly dexterous and charismatic character within your party composition.

The easiest way to gain access to this room is to first talk to Z’rell and receive the Find Balthazar quest, in which she will give you permission to enter his office and secure a Moonlantern. Inside Balthazar’s office, use Thieves' Tools to unlock the wooden door with your most dexterous character. This will lead you into a hallway witha couple of guards and a Scrying Eye.

Now you have two options. You can either take them on in battle, or try and convince them you belong there. The first option will trigger combat. Note that there is no guarantee that this won’t expand into other rooms or turn into a much bigger fight, especially if the Scrying Eye calls for reinforcements. The easier option here is to approach this room with your most charismatic character and pass a Charisma Check to convince the guards you belong there. After this, you will be free to come and go as you please.

Next, work your way into Kethetic’s room. The easiest method is by using the dexterous character to lockpick his door. Upon entering,Ketheric’s guard dog, Squire, may run up to you. You can undergo a check to calm her down, which will result in her choosing not to see you as a threat and continuing to roam the room. Alternatively, you can face her in combat. After dealing with Squire, head to the door located approximately atX: -169 Y: -198. Before entering, create a save outside this door.

When you’re ready to enter, the dexterous character should unlock this door with Thieves' Tools. Once it is unlocked, you will notice a chest inside. However, upon approaching this chest, it will reveal itself to be a Mimic and will trigger combat.

The Spineshudder Amulet can be obtained from the loot inside this Mimic chest after defeating it.TheMimic isn’t a tough fight, and should be easy to overcome in a one or two rounds. Often, a strong offensive tank-type character, such as a Fighterwith a 2x attack and an Action Surge, can kill the Mimic in a single turn. Once the Mimic is defeated, you should be able to loot the amulet from within.

Mimic Bug

Depending on the version ofBaldur’s Gate 3that you are running, there have been reports of this item bugging out and not appearing in the loot. To solve this,re-load the save that you created moments earlier. Now, you will need to defeat the 50 HP wooden chest in a single hit, before it transitions into the 75 HP Mimic.

The best way to achieve this is by placing a few Smokepowder Bombs in a backpack, using the Throw Action to launch the backpack right in front of the chest, and then using an arrow to detonate the bag of explosives, such as a Smokepowder Arrow or Arrow of Fire. This creates a blast that sets off multiple small explosions that deal 50 damage before the chest has the chance to transform into the Mimic. Now, when looting the chest, the Spineshudder Amulet should appear as intended.
