The main reason for the conflict between the girls is your group’sencounter with a Githyanki patrolnear the end of Act 1. After accepting Lae’zel’s quest and heading towards the Githyanki Creche, in due time, the players will reach the mountain pass, after which the girl will run to greet her clan members. You will not be able to avoid this dialogue, and regardless of the options you choose, you will learn that the Githyanki are looking for the artifact that is in the hands of Shadowheart.

The end of your encounter with Githyanki can lead to different outcomes, but the main problem will arise later. Of course, you won’t give up an artifact that protects you from the influence of The Absolute. But Lae’zel is unhappy that Shadowheart owns an item that belongs to her clan, which leads to conflictduring the next Long Rest.

How to Stop Lae’zel & Shadowheart’s Fight in BG3

Returning to camp after meeting with the Githyanki patrol, players will find a cutscene in whichLae’zel and Shadowheartargue about the artifact. Lae’zel insists that the item belongs to her people and wants it back. At the same time, Shadowheart makes a reasonable argument that this item protects your party from the influence of great evil.

Your choice during this dialogue does not matter since everything will end with the girls going to bed, and Lae’zel will schedule a duel that will take place in the morning. However, right after you fall asleep, you will wake up to a much more dangerous scene. Shadowheart holds a knife to Lae’zel’s throat and wants to kill her. At this point, the player can make one of three decisions to stop Lae’zel and Shadowheart’s fight inBaldur’s Gate 3:
