Summary
ABaldur’s Gate 3player manages to find a creative loophole that allows them to recruit Minthara to their party without having to first commit to an evil playthrough. Part of the appeal ofBaldur’s Gate 3is the level of freedom players are given to solve problems both big and large. While there’s always a traditional way to overcome a challenge, some resourceful players, likeMinsc’s voice actor Matthew Mercer, showcasing how it’s possible to stack boxes and then firing Arrow of Transposition to reach a far off location.
In addition to decisions and RNG style rolls,Baldur’s Gate 3has plenty of potential companion characters, each with their own backgrounds, personalities, and desires. One such companion is the Drow Paladin known as Minthara. While she tends to be fairly popular with the community, many have called forchanges to howBaldur’s Gate 3players can recruit Mintharaas players essentially need to help commit evil actions through raiding camps and killing seemingly innocent NPCs. The downsides very much outweigh the good for most players, though one creative player may have found a loophole for those who want to remain on the side of good.
On Reddit, a new method forrecruiting Minthara inBaldur’s Gate 3was put forth by a player named Pao and ultimately translated and reported by ZookeepergameDeep360. The guide takes a different approach with a lengthy plan that including knocking her out in Act 1, reaching level 7 and learning Polymorph in Act 2 to turn Minthara into a sheep at the Goblin Camp and then using Dominate Beast to add her into the player’s party. Teleport back to Moonrise Towers, and then trigger Ketheric’s judgement scene with Minthara still as a sheep. Split the party into two groups to save her from jail, ultimately leading to her being welcomed to the camp.
Overall, the process is much more complex than that basic rundown, but the other thing to keep in mind is that this definitely does not seem like an official way to recruit the Drow Paladin. TheBaldur’s Gate 3author noted that following these steps can also lead to a number of bugs or glitches, with “Sheep Minthara” potentially running or not behaving as expected, events not triggering as expected, or other unexpected gameplay. Therefore, players should make sure to save often and reload if things break down.
In the meantime, Larian continues to release new updates, and while this current recruitment method still works, with the amount of bugs that could happen, it stands to reason it may eventually get patched. For now,Hot Fix 9 arrived this week forBaldur’s Gate 3, bringing more quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, and added functionality for the recently added Magic Mirror.
Baldur’s Gate 3is available now on PC and PS5. An Xbox Series X/S port is expected to launch in late 2023.
