Summary

A Reddit user has discovered a bizarre ‘deal’ at Target for the Nintendo Switch version ofSonic Superstars. This so-called ‘deal’ is sure to turn the heads of a lot of fans interested inSonic Superstars, but not in a good way.

In the world of gaming, there are almost always great deals that are worth keeping an eye on nearly every single week. Just recently, for instance, games likeThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,Dead Space Remake, and theGranblue Fantasy: RelinkDeluxe Editionall received significant discounts on Amazon that may not be worth missing out on. However, there’s one ‘deal’ that was just spotted at Target that fans will likely want to avoid at all costs.

A Redditor that goes by the name Uncharteredfugazis posted a photo of a questionable ‘deal’ they found at Target forSonic Superstarson the Switch. The decently-reviewed2023 2D platformer, which normally retails at $59.99 USD at full price, wasn’t even on discount. On the contrary, the ‘deal’ Target was offering for the game somehow made it more expensive. Instead of costing $60, the game now costs $79.99, making it $20 more expensive than what it should be. How this ‘deal’ was even listed in the first place is anyone’s guess but, at the very least, it does make for a funny conversation piece.

Reddit user kadosho, for instance, commented on the post and expressed dismay at the unusually high price for this game. “That is um… yikes. Wait, isn’t there a sale of buy 2, get 1 free also going on? But this price tag. What happened?” Commenter dumpling321, on the other hand, pointed out that they’d seen people talking about another occurrence like this “in another sub somewhere else.” They claimed that the reason why thisshockingly high price tagexists is because of “a computer error that’s been happening at a bunch of Targets.” Meanwhile, other Redditors mentioned how they recently nabbedSonic Superstarsfor much lower than the standard retail price at other storefronts, like Walmart. This makes the $80 pricing for this game at Target all the more odd, considering it’s been getting some fairly steep discounts in other places as of late.

Sonic Superstars Wasn’t Very Successful For Sega

As forSonic Superstarsitself, the title did not perform very well commercially, with Sega admitting that this latest 2DSonic game fell short of sales expectations. In fact, Sega even went so far as to imply that the massive success ofSuper Mario Wonder, which released around the same time asSuperstars, was to blame for the game’s failure. The fairly lukewarm reception thatSonic Superstarsreceived from fans and critics at launch also probably didn’t help much either. Because of this, it’s no wonder that the game is getting discounted up to 50% off only months after release. Fans should just make sure not to buySonic Superstarsat Target, as if they do they could be paying 20% more than usual.
