Silent Hill 2 Remakedeveloper Bloober Team has publicly addressed a rumor regarding the anticipated game that began circulating last week. The remake forSilent Hill 2was announced late last year but has seen little more information since, leaving fans clamoring for any details about the beloved IP.

It was widely reported last week that Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno told PAP Business thatthe development ofSilent Hill 2was likely further alongthan fans expected. He was quoted as having said thatSilent Hill 2"is technically ready" and “close” to completion. Babieno apparently continued by highlighting that distribution and promotion of the title would not be handled by Bloober, a statement that was inferred to suggest Bloober may feel prepared for a release date announcement. But Bloober Team has now publicly come out to dispute the rumors.

In a statement posted to the studio’s official Twitter account,Bloober began by asserting that it does not typically commenton rumors but felt the need to do so here. They blame “inaccurate translations” for the recent claims that have allegedly been taken out of context. The first of two corrections declares that any information regarding “sales forecasts” were not about specific titles, but rather a broad estimate for the “type of games [Bloober Team] will be focusing on in the future.”

The second, and most disappointing, is a definitive refutation of the rumor thatSilent Hill 2is “ready for release.” It goes on to say that regardless of the present development stage, Bloober Team is dedicated solely to ensuring the game is of thequality thatSilent Hill 2fans deserve. The message concludes with an affirmation that Konami will release any relevant information when it becomes available, and thanks fans for their support.

Although not a direct contradiction of Babieno’s words, the statement does suggest thatSilent Hill 2will not be due to release for some time. That said, it is in Bloober Team’s best interest to take as long as possible with the remake, as its efforts will inevitably be compared against the recentDead SpaceandResident Evil 4releases, both met with an overwhelming amount of praise. Bloober Team does not find itself in particularly good standing with some members of the horror community, with past criticisms deeming the studio derivative and far behind the likes of Capcom. Those excited forSilent Hill 2hope that Bloober will iterate and improve upon its previous endeavors, and are likely pleased to hear that the studio is intent on taking its time.

Silent Hill 2 Remakeis in development for PC and PS5.
