Bungie has addressed Savathun’s return inDestiny 2and has said that player’s shouldn’t immediately expect her and the Hive to join forces with the Guardians.Savathun’s imminent return inDestiny 2was confirmed during last week’s story mission, and she could arrive in Season 22 or 23.

Following theevents ofDestiny 2’sLightfallDLC, the Guardians and the Vanguard have no clue about the Witness’ location or how to follow them as they entered the Traveler via the Veil. Amidst this, Sloane, a long-forgotten Guardian, resurfaces on Titan, and helps the Guardians find answers about the Witness through Ahsa, an underwater creature. After the Vanguard rescued Ahsa in last week’s story mission, the creature revealed that the Guardians will need Savathun’s help to fight the Witness. Owing to this, several fans believed that the Witch Queen will become an ally in the upcoming battle against the Witness, but Bungie has advised against jumping to that conclusion.

As reported by Dexerto,Destiny 2’s senior narrative designer Robert Brookes said, “The Hive has still committed a lot of, you know, genocide.” He added to this by saying how it will be difficult to see the Hive from a different perspective because “there’s a lot of ground to cover to make amends for that.” Brookes also mentioned that Savathun could be considered as an ally as she now has the Light, but given that the Hive have committed heinous crimes across the galaxy for billions of years, it would a difficult scenario to imagine.

The Hive Gods followed a doctrine called “Sword Logic” that set them on the path of committing genocide and other horrendous crimes. However, theWitch Queencampaign revealed that the Hive Gods were tricked by the Witness into believing that the Sword Logic was the path they were supposed to follow. Savathun became aware of this trickery at the end of theDestiny 2: TheWitch Queencampaign, but the Guardians had already managed to defeat her by then. Interestingly, her Ghost managed to escape before the Guardians could take away her Light powers, which indicated that she could return at some point in the future. Now, even though the Guardian’s need her help in finding the Witness, she cannot be considered an ally as she is the literal Goddess of Deception.

Savathun’s return toDestiny 2also steers the game’s story into an interesting direction. InDestiny 2Season of the Deep, all three Hive Gods have been mentioned, and even Oryx’s body is in the Ghosts of the Deep Dungeon. Additionally, Xivu Arath has also been a big part of the current season, which could hint towards a possible face-off against the Hive God of War in the future as well.

Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
