The war will continue to rage on inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare. In a post to its website, series developer Infinity Ward announced that it would be extending the game’s first season of content until next month in order to both introduce “new items and challenges” andre-introduce popular features to the game.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfarereleased its first Battle Pass with free unlockable content in early December. Since the pass’s release, Infinity Ward has packed the Battle Pass content with several new weapons, game modes and maps, advertising 100 tiers of content inModern WarfareSeason 1 alone.

In its recent post, Infinity Ward announced a new crossbow weapon that could be unlocked by completing a new in-game challenge. With even more content incoming, the developer decided that it needed to postpone Season 1’s final day to February 11 to evenly space out the release of new weapons, new playlists,“remixed game modes” and rewards from previous versions ofModern Warfareand other miscellaneous items and challenges. In the meantime, Infinity Ward will also be offeringModern Warfareplayers with experience point boosters and faster tier progression in order to allow players to complete the first season’s content in time for February and the beginning of the game’s second season.
Although several fans have criticized Infinity Ward’s approach to releasing content,Modern Warfareis considered a return to formamidst a current glut of shooter games. The postponement of Season 1’s finale comes as no surprise, as it gives the developer more time to fine-tune its content, remove any glaring glitches and allow more novice players to buy the game and battle pass and quickly move through the existing tiers of content to catch up to the next update.
In spite ofModern Warfare’s massive success,Call of Dutyplayers do still have valid complaints. Several egregious bugs have plagued the game since its release, and itslong-anticipated battle royale mode has yet to surface. While Infinity Ward is right to extendModern Warfare’s first season in order to properly release new content, it should also focus on previously promised features and the integrity of its gameplay.
However,the developer is aware of community criticism, and does appear to want to engage with its community. AsCOD: Modern WarfareSeason 1 draws to a close, players should be able to approach the game in the hopes that it will continue to both improve existing gameplay and release new content for a long time to come.
