Summary

Call of Dutyhas had a rather bizarre history with crossovers in the last few years. While the franchise has dabbled with crossovers long beforeCall of Duty: Warzone, it was the battle royale’s debut that really ushered in a new age of pop-culture collaborations for the series, though it began with some rather odd partnerships, bringing skins based on decades-old series likeDie HardandDonnie Darko.

But as time has gone on,Call of Dutyhas shifted its collaborations to be a bit more relevant to the modern age of entertainment. The Boys,The Umbrella Academy,Godzilla x Kong, andThe WalkingDeadhave all collaborated withCall of Duty, bringing some new Operator skins to the game along with some other themed cosmetic items such as weapon blueprints, emblems, and bullet tracers. Butthe latestCall of Dutycrossoveris a bit more substantial than those that have come before it, and it could even pave the way for a very different type ofCall of Dutyin the near future.

Call of Duty’s Warhammer Crossover Could Pave the Way for a New Sci-Fi Entry

Call of Duty’s Warhammer Crossover Is Far More Than Just Some Skins

In the past,Call of Duty’s crossovers have often brought one or two skins to the game, along with some extra cosmetics, some weapon blueprints, and a finishing move or two, all of which are usually available in one big bundle. The latestCall of DutyxWarhammercrossover, however, takes things much further. Rather than just one bundle,Call of Dutyis releasing three separateWarhammer-themed crossover bundles, all consisting of multiple skins and a plethora of additional cosmetics.

Named the Space Marines Tracer Pack, the Sisters of Battle Tracer Pack, and the Astra Militarum Tracer Pack, these bundles contain at least one skin based on their respectiveWarhammer 40Kfaction, with the Space Marines pack getting a Space Marine Scout-themed operator and so forth. But these bundles are so much more than first meets the eye. Along with incredibly detailed and authentic skins, theseCall of DutyxWarhammerpacks come with a slew of extra cosmetics that give players' arsenal a full grim-dark overhaul, turning weapons like the Sidewinder and Haymaker into Bolters, along with new dismemberment death effects that can quickly turn an average match into a gorefest.

ThisCall of DutyxWarhammercrossover also adds a limited-time Juggermosh game mode in which the juggernauts are given a Space Marine makeover, acting as a very nice integration of both properties, being in keeping withWarhammer 40Klore.

A Warhammer-Like Call of Duty Game Has a Lot of Potential

But this should only be the start ofCall of Duty’sWarhammercollaboration. Though seeing a Space Marine run aroundCall of Duty’s realistic modern-day maps might seem a little jarring, the actual look of the skins - both in first-person and third-person - feel right inCall of Duty, and paired with the game’s new gore effects, it might have fans asking for aCall of Duty Warhammergame.

While a directCall of DutyWarhammerfirst-person shooteris probably out of the realm of possibility, at least for now, it doesn’t mean thatCall of Dutycouldn’t forge its own grim-dark Sci-Fi adventure. ThoughCall of Duty: Infinite Warfarewas panned by many critics and fans, its reception shouldn’t stopCall of Dutyfrom making another Sci-Fi game.Warhammer’s darker tone, oppressive atmosphere, and gore-filled visuals could be the perfect blueprint for a brand-new type ofCall of DutySci-Fi game, one that isn’t afraid to really push the boat out and experiment with some truly grim themes.
