Summary
Call of Duty: Warzone’s upcomingDoomcrossover bundle will be host to an unexpected throwback to the look and feel of the originalDoomgames. AsCall of Duty: WarzoneandModern Warfare 2’s final season beforeModern Warfare 3’s imminent November launch, Season 6 is going all out with the largest amount of crossovers the franchise may have ever seen in a single season. With Halloween drawing nearer,Call of Dutyhas pulled in a number of spooky collaborations. The battle pass itself is based on the popular comic book antihero Spawn, featuring a vast array of Spawn-themed skins and cosmetics for players to earn. Purchasable operator packs include the likes of Ash Williams fromEvil Dead, Alucard fromHellsing,Lilith and Inarius fromDiablo, and Skeletor fromMasters of the Universe, and will each become available throughout the month of October.

WhileCall of Duty: Warzone’sDoomtracer pack won’t feature a playable operator, its two weapons make up for it with a special wrinkle for fans of the classicDoomgames. On TikTok, wesoncod posted a video of the Super Shotgun and chainsaw from theDoombundle in action. While in use, the framerate for the walking, firing, and reloading animations are significantly lowered toemulate the look and feel of the classicDoomgames. It’s surprising to see, as something of this nature is usually done as a sort of fun player-created mod instead of an officially licensed cosmetic.
Even though this intentional frame drop only affects the player’s weapon animations and has no bearing on the overall framerate of the gameplay, it’s still a jarring effect. It would be interesting to see what these weapons look and feel like when being swapped withother normalCall of Dutyweapons. ThisDoomtracer pack looks to serve well as an awesome homage for lovers of theDoomfranchise, especially of the early games, but the Super Shotgun’s viability in a competitive environment will almost certainly come into question.
Call of Dutyis going all out with spooky crossovers for its final season ofModern Warfare 2. As such, this huge wave of collaborations will likely be the last for a while, ascrossovers forModern Warfare 3may not begin again until next Spring, which has typically been the timeframe for newCall of Dutygames in recent years.Doomfans are sure to be looking forward to October 9 when the bundle becomes available inCall of Duty.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
