The Digital Foundry video begins by setting the record straight right away by saying the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S allow for an experience as close to PC performance as possible withControl: Ultimate Edition. WhileControlperformed well on PCwhen it first released, the console versions of Control suffered a bit on the performance end. Now, it seems that those problems have all but been eliminated on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Additionally, the added effects like ray tracing and faster load times serve to make the experience just that much smoother.

While the last generation versions ofControlon PS4 and Xbox One ran at 30 frames per second with framerate dips during intensive gameplay, it looks likeControl: Ultimate Editionhas very little trouble running at a smooth 60 FPS. Additionally, players on PS5 and Xbox Series X have the option to turn on a 30 FPS mode that addsray tracing effects toControl: Ultimate Edition. This ray tracing graphics mode looks visually stunning, provided players are willing to take the lower frame rate. Though, for those players on Xbox Series S, the game still runs at a smooth 60 FPS, while being rendered at 900p.

However, for players wondering whether or not they should grabControl: Ultimate Editionon PS5or Xbox Series X to get the best experience, it seems like players should be able to make their pick without missing out on much at all. The Digital Foundry video does make note that the visuals overall on PS5 appear a bit brighter compared to the Xbox Series X, but other than that, the game runs similarly between the two consoles. It’s worth mentioning that both versions have slight faults of their own, but nothing too detrimental to the overall experience.

On PS5, there areportions ofControl’s gameplaywhere the game will have a slight dip in frame rate during combat encounters with heavy graphical effects. Still, the framerate only dips to about 55 FPS before smoothing out. On Xbox Series X, it seems there are times during exploration whereControlwill have a slight stutter, where the game almost seems to stall. Aside from those performance hiccups, it seems likeControl: Ultimate Editionis going to be quite the treat on both PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Control: Ultimate Editionis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
