Harmon’s past shows have become hits among viewers and have been praised for their mix of comedy and social commentary. NBC’sCommunitylasted six seasons and the main cast has hinted thata future movie is a possibility. Meanwhile,Rick and Mortyhas been wildly successful among viewers and critics for its original humor and intelligent commentary and was renewed in 2018 for 70 more episodes.
Fox has also been putting more effort into adding to their animation block. This new series will join long-time running shows,The Simpsons,Bob’s Burgers, andFamily Guy, as well as newer shows like Duncanville, as part of Fox’s growing list of animated programming.
With the promise that this show will deliver social commentary on today’s “politics, celebrity, and pop culture,” Harmon’s new comedy is so far looking like a potential hit. However, it is questionable whether this new animated series will be able to measure up to the critically-acclaimedRick and Morty.Dedicated viewers may be expecting a similar comedic tone toRick and Morty, and it will be interesting to see how audiences react if Harmon decides to go in a different direction.
This new animated series builds even more anticipation among patient Dan Harmon fans. Fans were subject to a two-yearwait for season 4 ofRick and Morty, so it’s possible that this new series may premiere before we see a season 5 ofRick and Morty, which has yet to announce a premiere date.
