A new fan-made video shows off the potential beauty of an originalDark Soulsremaster if it were made in Unreal Engine 5. FromSoftware’s series-starting title is among a slew of older games getting intriguing previews from eager gamers, and even theoriginalResident Evilmansion got an Unreal Engine 5 upgraderecently as well.
The originalDark Soulsalready got a remaster a few years back, but for a few fans and critics, it didn’t quite meet expectations. FromSoftware has one of the best reputations in the gaming industry based on its numerous successful soulsborne titles, and while theDark Soulsremaster looked decent, it lacked some of the gameplay upgrades that made its sequels receive such high praise. This fan-made preview of the game through the state-of-the-art Unreal Engine 5 is just a superficial look, but it’s extremely promising.

In the description of the video, SilasCG mentions that they’ve added some elements, but most are still the original assets from the 2011 title. The sights of Anor Lando, from the various spires viewable on the bridge to the haunting statues in theclassicallyDark Souls-tough Ornstein and Smough boss room, are all illuminated in amazing new form thanks to this preview.
As of right now, FromSoftware hasn’t announced any plans for another originalDark Soulsremake. It seems far more likely that, after receiving the original remake and the PS5-exclusiveDemon Soulsremake, the next logical remaster for the studio would beDark Souls 2andDark Souls 3remasters. Again, there isn’t any official announcement that those are coming, but recently, a developer atFromSoftware confirmed that the studio is working on an unannounced project. Whether or not that’s a remaster or a completely original title will remain unknown for the foreseeable future.
FromSoftware’s current confirmed project isArmored Core 6. It’s clear that the studio is going all out on the newest entry in its long-lived third-person mecha series, with a number ofnew abilities and enemy types already confirmed forArmored Core 6through the most recent trailer. The game has lofty expectations to meet, considering the waves made in the gaming industry byElden Ring, but Miyazaki and the team at FromSoftware have proven multiple times that they’re capable of exceeding expectations.
Dark Souls Remasteredis available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
