Summary

Bungie has shared details regarding this year’s Dawning event inDestiny 2, which will add a new weapon called the Albedo Wing with updated perks along with an event-specific Memento. TheDawning is a part ofDestiny 2’s annual limited-time events, with it celebrating Christmas.

Currently,Destiny 2has 4 limited-time events that happen every year: Guardian Games, Solstice of Heroes, Festival of the Lost, and The Dawning. Each event introduces new ways for players to earn loot and other event-specific items. Bungie also tweaks some aspects of these events every year to keep things fresh, which players experienced firsthand with this year’sDestiny 2Festival of the Lost’s Legend Haunted Sectors. As for The Dawning, it allows players to spread the Christmas cheer by adding Snowballs to the game’s activities. Now, Bungie has revealed details about the changes arriving with this year’s Dawning Event.

As mentioned in this week’sTWID blog post,Destiny 2’s Dawning 2023 event will add a new Glaive called the Albedo Wing which will be available via event challenges and Festive Engrams. In addition to this, it will also have an updated perk pool, including perks like Deconstruct, Attrition Orbs, Cold Steel, Beacon Rounds, and an Origin trait called Dawning Surprise. Additionally, Bungie has urged players to look out for Zephyr, the game’s only Stasis sword, which now rolls with the Cold Steel Perk, as it could come in handy when paired with Season 23’s artifact mods. Bungie is also changing the way Stasis Snowballs spawn, where defeating enemies with Dawning weapons will create a snowball spawn point at that location.

Function

Dawning Surprise – Origin Trait

Rapidly defeating targets awards a Dawning gift. Defeated powerful targets count as more than one.

Deconstruct

Dealing sustained damage grants bonus damage against vehicles and constructs and partially refills the magazine. Damage with Primary ammo or against constructs provides additional progress. Constructs include barricades, turrets, Stasis crystals, and other objects created in the field. This perk description states that it partially refills the magazine, but we’d like to clarify that this pulls ammo from thin air, not reserves.

Powered Sword hits slow targets.

Beacon Rounds

Final blows with this weapon grant your projectiles tracking. Dealing further damage extends the duration.

Aside from this, Bungie is also adding a new Dawning Memento for players to earn which will give their weapons an icy blue look. Bungie could be looking to make this a regular occurrence as this year’s Festival of the Lost event introducedDestiny 2’s first all-black shader in the form of a Memento. However, considering this Memento could only be used once, several players expressed their disappointment because the grind to acquire it was quite tedious.

Right now, Bungie cannot afford to disappoint its players any further, considering it has many issues to deal with. A recent report revealed the grim state of employees currently working at Bungie after the developer laid off around 100 workers earlier. It also recently delayed itsDestiny 2The Final Shape expansion to June 2024to ensure that it lives up to players' expectations. Consequently, Bungie faces an uphill task to retain its players and ensure that the Final Shape’s quality is high, asDestiny 2’s popularity has dipped substantially.
