After a couple of leaks, developer Bungie has detailedDestiny 2’s upcoming second annual Guardian Games event. While much of the event is the same as last year’s, Bungie has detailed some changes coming toDestiny 2Guardian Games, which run from April 20 to May 11.

For those who don’t know, the Guardian Games event pitsDestiny 2’s three player classes against one another, with players getting points by completing various challenges and missions. Each week new Contender Cards and Triumphs become available to help players gather laurels and medals to donate toward’s their class' points for the week. Whilelast yearDestiny 2’s Titan classlargely dominated the event, it is an entirely new year with a variety of new balance changes and class tweaks to mix things up.

Perhaps the biggest change is one made to the event’s scoring. Points are awarded by guardians getting certain medals, from Bronze to Platinum, that are each worth ascending point values. Last year, the point values were adjusted per class to counteract the fact thatmoreDestiny 2players play Huntersthan the other two classes. This year the medals will be the same point value for every class at first, but at the end of each week whichever class took third place will receive a 10% boost to their point values for the remainder of the event.

This year’s Guardian Games also brings with it a new Guardian Games Strikes Playlist, which functions similarly to the Vanguard Strike Playlist but pairs players with others that are the same class. The playlist also bestows the classes with negative and positive modifiers based on what rank the class came in the previous day. The event introduces new Contender Cards that give players aseries of newDestiny 2challengesin exchange for a Gold Medal, and also brings new armor and other rewards with it, which will glow a certain color based on event standings for the week.

This year’s Guardian Games seems to be a good improvement over the last year’s that was dominated by one class and made many players disinterested in participating. The rewards revealed by Bungie also look great, and the event is a solid addition toDestiny 2’s ongoing Season 13 and could hint toward what sort of systems players may be able to expect fromDestiny 2’s future seasons and DLC. Hopefully, the event’s balance changes work to make it more of an even fight so thatDestiny 2players can represent their classes well and earn some of the great new loot.

Destiny 2is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
