Destiny 2’s latest DLC, The Final Shape, reintroduces Exotic class items back into the franchise, except with a new twist from how they previously worked in the originalDestiny. InDestiny 2, thenew Exotic class itemswill grant players Spirits, the power of two separate Exotic armor pieces combined into one convenient inventory slot, though with some limitations to their strength and which Exotic armor perks will be available. Until players get their hands on these Exotic class item Spirits and determine their potency, it remains to be seen what different kinds of overpowered combinations players can unleash withDestiny 2’s new Exotic class items.
While the Exotic class items' impact onDestiny 2’s current meta will naturally reveal itself in due time after players can begin obtaining the different rolls for the new Exotic class items, Bungie has already revealed the selection of Exotic perks that will be available as Spirits, giving players a strong idea of what to expect. In hindsight though, Bungie should consider going all-in on these new Exotic class items and expanding the available selection of Spirits with more Exotic armor perks.
Destiny 2’s Exotic Class Item Spirits Can Bring New Life to Old Exotics
Bringing two Exotic armor perks together in any given build will likely be a game-changer for buildcrafting inDestiny 2, even long after The Final Shape DLC brings the Light and Darkness saga to an end. Not to mention, the fact that some of the Spirits available on the new Exotic class items will allow players to utilize perks that were previously exclusive to a specific character class is also expected to have a lasting impression onDestiny 2’s current metain both PvE and PvP content.
Although, while the current selection of Spirits forDestiny 2’s Exotic class items is ground-breaking, there’s still a long list of Exotic armor perks that didn’t make the cut for this new feature. Consequently,future updates forDestiny 2should consider bringing some of these left-out Exotics to the new Exotic class items Spirit rolls to give players more buildcrafting choices.
Neutral Weapon-Oriented Exotic Armor
Exotics that aren’t oriented around a specific ability should arguably be fair game for the new Exotic class item Spirit rolls. The lines between the threecharacter classes inDestiny 2have been blurred ever since the Subclass 3.0 updates allowed players to access abilities from other character classes. So, making the weapon-oriented Exotic armor universal arguably seems like a natural progression at this point, and the new Exotic class items could be the perfect opportunity to finally do this.
The New Exotic Armor from the Final Shape DLC
Alongside the Exotic class items introduced in the DLC, there are also several othernew Exotics in The Final Shapethat are traditional Exotic armor pieces. Yet while new Exotics coming toDestiny 2is normally cause for celebration, these new Exotics in particular are at risk of being dead on arrival because of the Exotic class items' anticipated impact on the meta. So, making the Exotic perks from these new armor pieces available as Spirits could secure their place inDestiny 2’s meta.
Given how many beloved Exotics there are that haven’t made the cut so far, Bungie should arguably give some of these missing Exotics the Exotic class item treatment and make them available as Spirits. Otherwise, with how powerful these new Exotic class items are expected to be, any Exotics that get left behind risk falling victim to power creep.
