No matter how much Bungie seems to push buffs on sidearms, this archetype inDestiny 2continues to be underwhelming at best, especially in PVE. While there are some Exotic and Legendary sidearms that are worthwhile, the grand majority just fall short of expectations—including theTraveler’s Chosen, an Exotic some players may not even be aware exists.

This old Exotic sidearm has gone through some minor changes over the years, in order to make it more appealing for players. That being said, while it does come with a Catalyst, it is hardly one of the most impressive weapons in the game. ForDestiny 2players to complete another Catalyst, however, here’s how to do it and what exactly theTraveler’s ChosenCatalyst does.

How To Get TheTraveler’s ChosenExotic Sidearm

Those not yet in possession of this weapon can headover to the Towerand interact with the Monument to Lost Lights. In the Shadowkeep Exotics tab, theTraveler’s Chosencan be purchasedwith the following resources:

Its Intrinsic perkGathering Lightgrants stacks to the player when scoring final blows. When players activate the weapon, the stacks are consumed and grant ability energy based on the number of kills. On paper, this sounds amazing, but the catch is thatit’s a sidearm. Its other perk,Gift Of The Traveler, boosts weapon stats (target acquisition, reload, and handling) for each stack that players gain.

How To Get TheTraveler’s ChosenCatalyst

TheTraveler’s ChosenCatalyst can only be acquired randomly throughDestiny 2’splaylist activities, which can be incredibly frustrating for impatient players. However, the chance of it dropping should be fairly high, provided that players are first in possession of the sidearm itself.

Players can either hitthe various Crucible game modesor complete their weekly strikes, to earn a chance to get this Catalyst. A bit of good RNG, in trueDestiny 2fashion, is needed. Once players have the Catalyst, it needs to be upgraded for it to be applied to the weapon to unlock the Masterwork and additional benefits.

TheTraveler’s ChosenCatalyst requires a staggering 700 kills to complete. As a primary weapon, however, it should be an easy grind since players won’t need to manage their ammo reserves at any point. Altars of Sorrowor the Grasp of Avarice dungeon’s first encounterare some of the best spots to do a bit of kill farming.

What TheTraveler’s ChosenCatalyst Does

The Catalyst does three things: it increases the sidearm’s magazine by five bullets and grants it both Surplus and Osmosis, both of whichare well-known Legendary weaponperks. Neither are all that bad, either, especially Surplus when paired with the Exotic’s Intrinsic perk that grants ability energy.

Osmosis has become a more interesting perk since 2022, thanks to the 3.0 subclass reworks. It can change the damage type of the sidearm to the one players have equipped when players use their grenade ability. Overall, for those who insist on using sidearms, it’s not a bad Catalyst to level up.
