Updated on August 7th, 2024 By Joshua Leeds:Each new season of Diablo 4 brings new mechanics and activities to complete. Many of these activities have stayed or have been refined, making it even easier for players to level up fast, especially when making a seasonal character. This article has been updated to include information for everything currently available in season 5.
How to Level Up Fast in Diablo 4
To level up quickly, players will need to take on a wide range of activities inthe world of Sanctuary: Dungeons, Renown Rewards, and Side Quests are among the best methods. Thankfully,Diablo 4is generous with XP gains, especially after it got tweaked following player feedback during the game’s earlier seasons. That said, the following tips will help players get the best edge.
Farm Helltides
As ofDiablo 4 Season 4, Helltides have become the best way to level up characters. This season saw the introduction of Helltides in the first two World Tiers, giving fresh characters a chance to earn tons of XP and loot simultaneously.
For the uninitiated, Helltides are world events that fill certain regions of the map with demons. Enemy density in these affected areas is extremely high, making them great for farming XP in general. Helltides are usually active for only an hour, but they’ll sprout back somewhere else on the map after a few minutes. If you can farm quickly enough, you can get a Level 1 character all the way to Level 50 in about four hours.

While killing any enemy within a Helltide can be helpful, there are specific things that can be done to further boost your XP gain. Be sure not to die and save your Aberrant Cinders to open Tortured Chests found within the Helltide. These chests not only reward loot but also decent sums of XP to be rewarded on top of all the demons you kill to get the Cinders.
The Tree Of Whispers
Many random activities found throughout the world give players Grim Favors. After ten Grim Favors are earned, you cantravel to the Tree Of Whispersto choose your reward. While these initially look like just boxes of loot, they will also give players huge sums of XP, usually leveling you up for most levels for below about 70. The activities to get Grim Favors can also be done within a Helltide, letting you use many of these methods at once to maximize your XP.
Use Seasonal Blessings
Seasonal Blessings are earned byspending Smoldering Ashesin the battle pass menu. Smoldering Ashes are earned through the free ranks of the pass, and one of the blessings is a straight percentage boost in all XP earned. These rewards are earned randomly while playing the game, and the bonuses will stay active at all times until the season ends, on top of any other bonuses found on this list.
Play at a Higher World Tier
Diablo 4’sWorld Tier systemdetermines many things: how many enemies spawn, how tough they are, how hard they hit, and more. However, for every buff the enemies get, the player also gets a massive jump in XP gained and loot quality. The harder the difficulty, the bigger the reward.
Use Elixirs
There are many elixirs in the game, and most (if not all) of them increase your XP gain by a small amount. These elixirs can be crafted byAlchemists, dropped by monsters, or earned as rewards. Choose the elixirs that arebest for yourDiablo 4buildand stock up on them. Then, when you enter a dungeon or world event, drink a potion to bump up the experience you’ll earn from it for a limited time.
Usually, only one elixir can be used at a time, but for those willing to complete thePinch Of Poison side quest, you can actually use two elixirs at once. The second elixir is limited to the specific one from the quest, but it also offers a boost in XP earned, which stacks on top of another active Elixir.

Play with Friends (Or Strangers)
In an effort to encourage people to enjoyDiablo 4together, Blizzard chose to give players an XP boost if they’re partied up. Those whoplayDiablo 4in a partyget 10% more XP from everything. There’s also a 5% XP boost for being near another player, even if they aren’t in the same party. This bonus stacks with the Elixir bonus noted above.
Complete Side Missions
Every outpost on the map is populated by people needing something or another. Some ask the wanderer for help foraging in the woods; others require that the wanderer liberate a hideous monster’s head from its body. Some mission providers even offer multiple missions, like Sister Octavia, who can be found on the East side of Kyovashad. While side quests aren’t exactly quick to complete, they’ll give you a big chunk of XP at the end.
Clear Side Dungeons
The Side Dungeons inDiablo 4offer neat rewards in the form of Aspects, which are enchantments that players can unlock to use with any character on their account. They’re challenging, packed with critters, and always end withan epic boss fight. Grouped up with friends, players can expect to gain levels quickly just by jumping from one dungeon to the next.
Earn Renown Rewards
Diablo 4tracks players’ overall completion for each region on the map. As the player completes side quests, dungeons, and more, they’ll earn Renown for that region. At certain thresholds of Renown, players will be able to accept a reward. The Bonus XP reward for these is substantial, but remember that the higher tiers require playing at a higher World Tier.
