Ever since the 80s,Star Warsvideo games made up a cornerstone of the property, from the originalSuper Star Warson the SNES, to the much belovedStar Wars Jedi Knightseries of the 90s and early 2000s, to most recently, the excellentStar Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. Many of these games have been considered just as important to theStar Warscanon and fanbase as the films and TV shows, especially the older games, as they were responsible for expanding the world beforeDisney bought LucasFilm in 2012. It took some time for Disney to start really producingStar Warsvideo games, but fans are currently getting a pretty good serving of content with a confirmed five games in development.

Disney is teasing aStar Warsvideo game announcement for December 2021. Today startsStar Wars' latest merchandise push, known as “Bring Home The Bounty,” where every Tuesday through the rest of the year, newStar Warsproducts will be revealed. The website provides a roadmap for every week, featuring icons representing what that week’s products might be related to, with the week of December 14 having a game controller. Recently there have been rumors thatQuantic Dream is working on aStar Warsgame, as well one centered onThe Mandalorian.

This announcement can really be anything, with practically everyStar Warsstory being open for video game potential. According to the article, “Expect reveals of new items inspired by everything fromThe Book of Boba Fett, (…) andThe Mandalorianto classics like the Skywalker saga films, animated series includingStar Wars: The Bad BatchandStar Wars: Visions, and much more.” Part of this movement is also to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of LucasFilm, with Paul Southern, the Senior Vice President at Lucasfilm, saying, “We wanted to find a way to celebrate all of our beloved characters and stories from the classic to the new and everything in-between.”

Many people’s reaction to this may be of worry, as there are currently a lot ofStar Warsgames in development. With so many titles being worked on right now, there is a fear of the series becoming bloated with releases and perhaps quickly fatigued. However, there is another crowd that believes thatmoreStar Warsgames would be a good thing, especially where the content so far seems quite varied between experiences. FromLego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, theKnights of the Old Republic Remake,Star Wars Hunters, and many others, there is certainly otherStar Warsstories to tell and games to be made.
