It may be hard to believe thatDoom Eternalhas been out for almost six months. During that time, the game has garnered a great amount of positive attention from many longtime fans of the series. Now, after nearly six months of waiting, an id Software developer has given Nintendo fans a long awaited update on the Switch port ofDoom Eternal.

WhenDoom (2016)initially launched, the game was only available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Eventually the game was ported to Nintendo Switch at the request of numerous fans, but the Switch port launched well over a year afterDoom (2016)’s initial release. Though, according to a developer, a Switch port forDoom Eternalmight be releasing much sooner than fans may have initially anticipated.

An id Software developer named Marty Stratton commented on the development process of portingDoom Eternalto Switch during an interview atPAX x EGX.Stratton and presumably the other developers are quite aware of the demand for a Switch port ofDoom Eternal. When asked directly about it, Stratton had some very good news.

What will come as a big relief to Nintendo fans is that according to Stratton, the port is very close to being done, though he could not specify how close exactly. Considering the fact that everyone is working from home, including the developers over at Panic Button Games who are working specifically on the Switch port, it’s a rather slow-going process. Panic Button Games the developers responsible for portingDoom (2016),Warframe,and variousWolfensteintitles over to Nintendo Switch.

In addition to the developers working from home, Stratton also stated that there were various facets of the development process that he and his fellow developers want to be uncompromising in terms of quality, given how much demand there is for a Switch port. Thus, it looks like the Switch port will still take a while to release. Perhaps the port will launch alongsideThe Ancient GodsDLCreleasing near the end of October.

In any case, this is still very good news for Nintendo fans who have been asking for a Switch port. While the actual release date for the Switch port is still unknown, it seems like the development process is progressing slowly, but smoothly. Though, maybe the game willstealth launch on the Switch like the ports of the classicDoomgames. For now, fans will just have to wait for further updates from the development studio.

Doom Eternalis available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia.
