Summary
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thievesis an exciting film that follows a motley crew of characters from all walks of life. It was funny, dramatic, and told a personal story that evolved into an apocalyptic-level epic that transformed the protagonists into heroes. Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Rege-Jean Page deliver excellent performances that make the world ofDungeons & Dragonsaccessible to those who never dove into the tabletop role-playing game. But among them, one character stood out above the rest:Doric.
Played by Sophia Lillis,Doric is a tiefling druid, and is exceptionally gifted with shape-shifting abilities that are fun to watch on the silver screen. Lillis delivers a memorable performance that enriches the world the other characters explore. While the movie itself deserves a sequel, no other character would work in a standalone story as well as Doric would. She deserves a spin-off project that further explores her backstory while following her adventures as a druid. A story that follows her life as a member of the Emerald Enclave would keep fans returning for each new outing.

Doric is a Tiefling druid who is a member of the Emerald Enclave, an organization of druids andother nature worshipperscommitted to the preservation of nature’s order.Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thievesintroduces her fighting off a logging operation in the Neverwinter Wood. She impresses the heroes with her Wild Shape abilities, transforming into a snowy owlbear.

Doric’s upbringing taught her to be emotionally distant, especially around humans, as she was born to human parents who shunned her for being a Tiefling. They locked her in the attic of their house until they birthed a second, fully human child and abandoned Doric in Neverwinter Wood when she was only six years old. Doric eventually found refuge and a family among a group of wood elves who would encourage her to train as adruid, after witnessing her empathyfor animals and affinity for nature.
Doric’s strength as a druid quickly earned her a place with the Emerald Enclave. She gained more respect and friends by fighting for the Enclave’s cause, and made a name for herself outside the Enclave. Because of her accomplishments in the events ofHonor Among Thieves, the rightful Lord ofNeverwinter granted formal protectionof Neverwinter Wood to the Emerald Enclave, ensuring the safety of those who lived in the Wood and the forest itself. Doric continued traveling with her allies from the Neverwinter Heist.
Why Doric Deserves Her Own Spin-Off
Doric is a bit of an anomaly among her new allies inHonor Among Thieves. Unlike the rest of the core group, who all have some connection to one another, Doric is an outsider. The group accepts her, but aside from a brief adventure with Simon before the film’s events, Doric has no connection to anyone else. Rather, her presence gives the audience a glimpse of the larger world in which the group exists. It’s because of Doric the audience learns about the Emerald Enclave, which fights for a cause larger than any of them.
Viewers see the bulk of Edgin’s story, since the film was primarily about him, and they get a good chunk of everyone else’s backstory, even seeing their exploits. Not Doric, though. The audience learns about Doric’s history through brief moments of dialogue that only scratch the surface of what the tiefling has gone through. Her spin-off could be another fun adventure in the Forgotten Realms, but it could also be so much more.Having parents who distrust herfor something out of her control is a theme that resonates with many people worldwide. Parents help shape a person’s worldview, and Doric’s gave her a negative outlook. She tells Edgin as much:
As you’re able to imagine, I don’t trust humans. I find you to be hateful and selfish.
Doric is one of the youngest characters in the film but carries herself with the wisdom and demeanor of Gandalf. Most of the film’s major characters are human, but Doric isn’t. This would give her own movie a more unique perspective on the world, giving audiences a unique perspective as well. She would also encounter a great number of non-human characters, especially as she interacts with more Emerald Enclave members. Who doesn’t want to see more Wild Shape shenanigans, either? Watching Doric grow with her powers and become one of the most powerful druids in theForgotten Realmswould be an exciting experience for both fans and the actress alike.
