Ahead of the TI11 Grand Finals,Dota 2introduced Muerta, a hero with skull-like features and marigold flowers on her head inspired by the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). In the 50-second teaser video, she pulls out a gun and transforms into a wraith-like being surrounded by Ghosts that’s ready to pierce the veil and “haunt the lanes,” possibly implying that she’s a phantom walking in the land of the living. The plan is to release her inDota 2sometime early in 2023.
AlthoughDota 2hasn’t revealed much about Muerta’s abilities yet, some have assumed she will either be a ranged carry or an agility-based hero similar to Sniper. One YouTube commenter speculated that she might still able to help out the team after dying in-game. Meanwhile, others have started piecing together herpotential lore inDota 2. Based on Muerta’s monologue in the teaser, she could be part of the Sisters of the Veil, along with Phantom Assassin.
Muerta’s reveal fueled a lot ofexcitement among die-hardDota 2fans. Even esports organizations like OG and Evil Geniuses seem like they want to try her as soon as possible. Many fans also praised Muerta’s design, noting that, finally, there’s now a Mexican hero in the game.
With nowover 120 heroes in theDota 2roster, some players might be looking for a hero with fresh and unique abilities that could fit well with the game’s strategy. The addition of Muerta could make or break the meta, and of course, players prefer the former. If Muerta does end up being a hard carry, the hope is that she will be able to farm during battles. But until then, players will have to wait until 2023 to experience the new hero for the first time.
