Dragon Age: The Veilguard Will Let Players Choose What Happened in the Previous Game

BioWare suggested that thereturn of the fan-favorite protagonist inDragon Age:The Veilguardis being handled with a lot of thought, adding that players will be able to essentially recreate their character from the previous game. That goes for not just their appearance but also their background, including the choices they made all the way up to the end ofDragon Age: Inquisition. While the ability to carry over progress between games has been a series staple for over a decade, the way this feature will work this time around won’t rely on reading save files, BioWare Game Director Corinne Busche toldIGN.

Instead,Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s character creatorwill allow players to choose what happened in the previous game. Busche says the developers are aware that not everyone will remember their choices fromInquisition, a game that could be pushing 11 by the time its sequel hits the market. That’s why these choices will be presented through tarot cards that serve as a brief retelling of the 2014 adventure. Busche dubbed this feature “last time onDragon Age.”

The Dragon Age Keep service, which allows players to export their save files from the first two entries in the franchise in order to use them inInquisition, hence appears unlikely to offer any kind of integration withThe Veilguard. Nevertheless, there is currently no firm indication that BioWare plans to discontinue the web app anytime soon.

Asked about how many characters from the previous series installments areplanned to return inDragon Age: The Veilguard, Busche said only “some” will be part of the game, without elaborating on the matter. The fourth mainlineDragon Ageis currently waiting for a release date, though BioWare recently reiterated that the RPG is still targeting a fall 2024 launch.Dragon Age: The Veilguardwill be available on the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
