Dragon Ballfans had been eagerly waiting for the new season of theDragon Ball Superanime series, instead, they gotDragon Ball Super: Super Herowhich was surprising and satisfying both at the same time. ThisDragon Ballmovie was canon just asDragon Ball Super: Broly, and introduced some new characters with a return of an enemy organization from Goku’s childhood, the Red Ribbon Army. Besides having captivating animation and a decent storyline, the movie also made some fresh changes for some of the Z fighters in terms of strength.
Gohan who had been nerfed earlier inDragon Ball Zhas been given a new and great transformation that all theDragon Ballfans had been waiting for so long.Gohan’s new transformation called Beast Gohanwas introduced inDBS: Super Heroand the one who’s responsible for this is none other than Gohan’s sensei and father figure Demon King Piccolo. However, Gohan is not the only one that’s been blessed by Akira Toriyama with a new transformation or form even Piccolo also got a new and powerful form that he got to take down the improved and way dangerous version of Cell called Cell Max. Let’s analyze this new form of Piccolo.

Shenron to the Rescue
Since everyone’s favorite Saiyans Goku and Vegeta are training along with a newbie at sparring Broly on planet Beerus, it is up to Piccolo to keep looking out for everyone on Earth. After Piccolo is attacked byRed Ribbon Army’s advanced android Gamma 2, he decides on following the latter to trace down his hideout. What Piccolo witnesses afterward perturbs him and fills him with fear. Piccolo finds out that the Red Ribbon Army has returned and is in full action to exterminate him and his fellow Z fighters not only that, but they have also been preparing to resurrect Cell after giving maxing out his powers calling this new version Cell Max.
Just the mere visuals of Cell in a pod at Red Ribbon Army’s base were enough to send shivers down Piccolo’s spine, and after remembering thatGoku and Vegeta were on planet Beerusand even Bulma was not able to contact Whis. Piccolo also couldn’t get any help from Dende as he cannot get the potential unlocking powers like the Grand Elder Guru had until he becomes very old. Therefore, Piccolo turned to his last resort and summoned the wish-fulfilling dragon Shenron from the dragon balls that Bulma had with her. Shenron gave him his new form called Orange Piccolo and as the name suggests Piccolo turns orange in his new form different from his regular green form.
Much Needed Transformation
Piccolo’s new transformation or form comes right at the time it was a much-needed transformation. In the originalDragon Ballseries, characters from different races were shown to be almost on the same or slightly higher and lower levels be it humans, Saiyans, Namekians, etc. The gulf that theDragon Ballfans get to see now in terms of strength among the characters is gigantic. Earliercharacters like Yamcha, Krillin, and Piccolo could go shoulder to shoulder with our favorite Saiyans Goku and Vegeta, however, over time changed after the trend of Saiyans getting new transformations became a core part of the overall storylines of the franchise.
Piccolo was extremely powerful back in the day especially when he was called Demon King Piccolo in his previous birth. He was the first big villain of the originalDragon Ballseries, he was so powerful that kid Goku had to go full throttle to defeat and kill him. But as the franchise grew with the laterinstallments likeDragon Ball ZandDragon Ball Super, Piccolo became a rather weak character in terms of strength at least which was a sad sight for the fans to behold. The fans wanted the Z fighters apart from the Saiyans to get a much-needed power upgrade which was finally delivered inDBS: Super Heroeven though just partially since the only non-Saiyan Z fighter that has got a power upgrade is Piccolo. The fans still await the moment when the rest ofthe Z fighters like Krillin, Tien Shinhan, and Yamcha will also get a necessary power upgrade and will be able to hold their own against the villains.
How Does Orange Piccolo Work?
After his potential was unleashed by the fulfillment of his wish to Shenron, in the Orange Piccolo form Piccolo’s body turns bulkierwith the increased height. His pupils become red with black pigments around his eyes, and his skin becomes orange-colored. In this form, Piccolo became so strong that the attacks of Gamma 2 (who was earlier besting him in the fight) had no or little effect on him.
Piccolo got the ability to extend his body while in this form. He was even able to hold his ground against Cell Max, although the latter defeated him after some tussle. It was good for the fans to see Piccolo finally getting the recognition that he rightfully deserves with his new power upgrade. There are chances that other Z warriors might also get a power upgrade shortly inthe story of theDragon Ballfranchise.
