PS Plus Extra’s October Line-Up Is Great for Dragon Quest Fans
PS Plus Extra is adding five separateDragon Questgames in October. All arriving on October 13, theseDragon Questgames run the whole gamut of the video game spectrum, coming from a variety of different genres. From city-builders to gigantic RPGs, to smaller action games, PS Plus Extra’s OctoberDragon Questofferings are sure to appeal to a broad range of players.
The big flagshipDragon Questtitle on offer this month is undoubtedlyDragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition. Originally released in 2017 for the PS4 and Nintendo 3DS, this definitive edition of the sprawling JRPG was first made available two years later, in 2019. Much like the rest of the mainlineDragon Questseries,Dragon Quest 11 Sis a turn-based RPG that sees players traverse an overworld, engage in random encounters, battle monsters, and progress through a deep narrative filled with colorful characters. This definitive version of the game expands some story elements, has an improved orchestral score, and gives players the option to switch between 3D graphics and 16-bit graphics on the fly.
This month’s PS Plus Extra offerings also add twoDragon Quest Buildersgames. Originally released in 2016, the firstDragon Quest Buildersgame is a fairly simplisticMinecraftclone where players are tasked with building camps out of blocks. There’s a simple combat and hunger management system as well, but for the most part, players will be building their camps and leveling them up by continuing to add new structures.Dragon Quest Builders 2, originally released in 2019, takes this formula and expands on it ten-fold, providing new traversal options, an optional first-person perspective, a slew of new building options, and adding four-player co-op.
The last twoDragon Questgames available this month on PS Plus Extra are twoDragon Quest Heroestitles, which trade the series' usual RPG elements, for chaotic hack-and-slash gameplay. Developed by Omega Force, the studio behindDynasty Warriors,Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below, and its sequel, simply calledDragon Quest Heroes 2, have a plethora of playable characters to choose from, each of which has their own distinct abilities. Though these games are certainly more action-focused than themainlineDragon Questseries, they do still have some RPG components.
