Over two years have passed since the release ofDying Light 2, and Techland is still committed to a hefty roadmap of post-launch support and content for the zombie-slashing action RPG. As a title that was heavily anticipated for such a long time, it is nice to see the team behind the release be so dedicated to its longevity, with several expansive updates already breathing a lot of new life into the game.

Despite the good work that Techland has achieved withDying Light 2in its post-launch state, the title has had a lull in fresh content and experiences in recent months, with some of its most exciting DLC also being delayed. While a lot of these additions are still expected to come in the near future, it is clear thatDying Light 2can not afford to waste time with its most ambitious post-launch content, as the market of zombie-centric titles is as competitive as it has been for a long time.

Dying Light 2 Has a Small Window of Opportunity For its Next Big DLC

Fans waited over seven years for the launch ofDying Light 2, with the first entry to the franchise creating some huge expectations for the sequel to live up to. This legacy and anticipation behind the game even before it launched has clearly been a huge motivator for Techland to flesh-out the title with consistent post-launch updates, with the studio promising at least five years of dedicated support for the release.

Since its launch in 2022,Dying Light 2has received a ton of crossovers with other franchiseslikeThe Walking Dead,For Honor, andPayday, as well as huge gameplay overhauls like the introduction of firearms to the game and greater access to community-created content. The game has also done well to keep fans engaged with seasonal in-game events based around holidays like Halloween, yetDying Light 2has not received a major update since April of this year.

It is true thatDying Light 2recently hosted an Open Beta for its new Tower Raid missions, which take inspiration from roguelike mechanics, but it remains unclear when the title will finally receive its next big content injection.Dying Light 2is still set to receive its second major story DLC, which was already being delayed once, and the game may lose a lot of steam if fans are not updated about what is coming next for the franchise soon.

Dying Light 2’s Competition is Still Something to Worry About

TheDying Lightfranchise has always had to compete with theDead IslandIP, for example, withDead Island 2releasing only a year afterDying Light 2after a similar long hiatus. Of course,Dead Island 2has its own robust post-launch roadmap, and after the game releasing two major story expansions, Dambuster and Deep Silver let fans know that more surprises can be expected in the near future.

BesidesDead Island,Dying Light 2will face competition from other zombie experiences later on this year, withNo Room In Hell 2launching in Early Access this Fall. As a co-op zombie action horror experience,No Room In Hell 2will share a similar target demographic toDying Light 2, and a lack of communication and content in the coming months may seeDL2lose players to the other titles vying for the top spot of the zombie genre. While dedicated fans ofDying Light 2might still look forward to whatever comes next for the release, it is clear that the game cannot afford to wait much longer in terms of delivering on its lofty five-year promise of consistent post-launch support.
