Back in 2011,El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatronwas launched on the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Although not a critically acclaimed hit, the game built a cult following with praises for its visuals and deep battle system. Now, this classictitle is getting a NintendoSwitchport according to the game’s Director.
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatronis a third-person action adventure game with artistic world-building and unique aesthetics where it brings 2D-like platformer action to a colorful 3D setting. The story follows Enoch’s journey to seek seven fallen angels with the aim of preventing a great flood from destroying mankind. At the Tokyo Games Show 2010, the game received the “Future Game of the Show” award and its script bagged a gold mention on the Internet Buzzword Awards during the same year. Now, a little over a decade later,El Shaddaiis one of the latestcult classics coming to the Nintendo Switch.

In a YouTube video hosted by the game’s Director, Sawaki Takeyasu revealed that the Switch version ofEl Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatronis currently in development. Although an exact release date hasn’t been announced yet, Sawaki stated that more details will follow on April 28, a few weeks from now. Incidentally, Jul 04, 2025, is also the game’s 11th anniversary sinceoriginal release ofEl Shaddai.
Prior to the Switch port,El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatrongot a PC release last yearvia Steam. At the time, this included a Deluxe pack for $78.97 that shipped with a 90-page PDF artbook and the game’s soundtrack, which itself includes 61 tracks fromEl Shaddai. So far, the developer hasn’t shared if the Switch version will receive any similar exclusive offering.
Nintendo has been ramping up its library of games for the Switch as of late, particularly with the likes ofDemon Slayerand the rumoredCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered. Alongside much-anticipated upcoming titles likeThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, the company also appears to be working on popular titles from the past. This ranges from the Switch Online NES catalog to 1990s point-and-click puzzle adventure games likePutt-PuttandFreddi Fish.The inclusion ofEl Shaddaiis one of the latest entries on expected Switch ports, but it’s one that’s bound to excite fans of the handheld console.
