Elden Ringis a vast and sprawling action RPG packed with an extensive range of dangerous and horrific enemies. However, not every living thing in the Lands Between is a grotesque abomination trying to rip The Tarnished limb from limb. And while “friendly” can be a relative term in a From Software game, characters such as Iron Fist Alexander and Millicent are almost shockingly nicegiven the game’s incredibly violent setting.

One of theElden Ring’s friendliest faces is the fan-favorite character Miriel, Pastor of Vows, affectionately known as the “Turtle Pope” to fans. OneElden Ringfan decided to paint a charming scene of The Tarnished spending some quality time with everyone’s favorite priestly reptile.

Created by an artist known as cyanwhisky on Twitter, artwork recently made a bit of a buzz after being reposted on theElden Ringsubreddit. The fan art depicts a hooded Tarnished sitting down for a picnic with the giant, bishop-hat-wearing tortoise. In addition to a goblet and tea kettle, The Tarnished also brought Miriel an enormous cookie, which he is happily gnawing on. WhileElden Ring’s gentle Turtle Popeis perfectly lovable on his own, cyanwhisky’s artwork is almost impossibly wholesome for something based on a From Software game.

For anyone who has yet tomeet the Turtle Pope, Miriel, Pastor of Vows, is the steward of the ruined Church of Vows inElden Ring’s Liurnia of the Lakes region. He can sell The Tarnished Sorceries and Incantations and is a veritable font ofElden Ringlore. Miriel is also one of two characters who can help the player learn new abilities by deciphering Prayerbooks. Of course, he does all of that that while being a friendly and adorable giant tortoise in a bishop’s hat, so it’s understandable that Miriel became something of a fan favorite.

Reddit user Deidara77 posted the artwork to theElden Ringsubreddit on Sunday, asking fellowElden Ringplayers if they had anything to confess to the Turtle Pope. ConfessedElden Ringsins included using Dragon Communion Incantations in PVP, accidentally skipping major questlines, murdering friendly NPCs, and creating an excessive number of PVP characters. However, the most upvoted sin was one player’s failure to “get gud” after repeatedly losing toElden Ring’s overpowered poster-girl Melania.

Fans’ love of Miriel is far from new, and this isn’t the only example ofElden Ringplayers showing their appreciation. In April, a Reddit user named Azonavox shared theirreal-life tribute to the Turtle Pope. And while Aznoavox’s turtle statue in a paper hat may not be as technically impressive, it still shows the affection that someElden Ringplayers have for the kindly old reptile.

Elden Ringis available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
