With so many users playing the game over a long period of time many would assume that all the secrets of the game have been uncovered. With a game as deep asElden Ring, however, this is simply not the case. There are multitudinous quests, secret bosses, and evena plethora of endings to choose from. And now, a new detail has emerged that has piqued the interest of many gamers. According to Reddit user HoldMySoda, the trolls inElden Ringhave an extremely low resistance to sleep effects. This means that Tarnished who are looking to take on these large, formidable beasts may be able to gain an advantage by employing sleep as a tactic.

The sleep effect inElden Ringworks very similarly to the other effects in the game like poison, scarlet rot, or madness. These are known as status effects. Astatus effect is a buff or afflictionthat either serves to boost the target’s stats or has some sort of negative impact on the target. The effects are triggered after the accumulation of the effect has taken place, but the build-up time can vary depending on the resistance of the target. Repeated application of the sleep effect will put an enemy to sleep for a maximum of 60 seconds, allowing the player to charge up an attack for massive damage.

The trolls found inElden Ringare difficult to bring down, especially in the early game when the player is under-leveled and overwhelmed. But one hit from St. Trina’s Torch or The Sword of St. Trina and the troll will fall fast asleep. It is pertinent to note, however, that not every enemy in the game has this same proclivity to fall asleep on the battlefield. Most enemies are sleep resistant or sleep immune rather than sleep vulnerable.

This new inspiration has sparked a flurry of discussion in the gaming community, with many speculating how this newfound mechanic willimpactElden Ring’smeta. Some are already planning out strategies for taking on droves of enemies while others are simply surprised that this exists in the game at all.

Elden Ringis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
