Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s greatest flaw is that it is not available for everyone, with it only being playable on PlayStation consoles. That may not be the case for much longer though, as an Epic Games Store leak indicatesFinal Fantasy 7 Remakemay be coming to the PC platform in the near future.

Undoubtedly,Final Fantasy 7 Remakewas one of the biggest games of 2020. This reimagining of the hit original PS1 game provided fans a new look at Cloud Strife’s adventures in Midgar with beautiful graphics, authentic voice-acting, and an intense yet refined battle system. Recently, the game received a PS5 treatment, improving the performance and visuals, along with the release of a new DLC story,Remake InterMISSION, showing what Yuffie Kisaragi was doing during the main game. Originally released as a PlayStation exclusive,Final Fantasy 7 Remakehad its exclusivity extendedearlier this year for another six months.

First covered by VGC, an Epic Games Store leak from earlier this year suggested an incoming announcement forFinal Fantasy 7 Remakecoming to PC. Included in the leak wasthe then unannouncedAlan Wake Remastered, which Remedy Entertainment just confirmed to be launching later this year. This confirmation ofAlan Wake Remasteredretroactively gives more credence to the original leak, withFinal Fantasy 7 Remakefor PC, in turn, seeming all the more likely.

The game’s exclusivity must still be kept in mind:Final Fantasy 7 Remakewill not appear on any other platform until its deal with PlayStation has ended. This would make the earliest possible release sometime this fall or early winter. Square Enix partnering with Epic Games would not be a new development, as itreleased manyKingdom Heartsgamesthis past spring on the PC store. It would follow then forFinal Fantasy 7 Remaketo arrive on the Epic Games Store at some point.

Currently there is no telling when such an announcement will be made. Later this month,Square Enix will give a presentation at TGS Online 2021, which would be as good a place as any to detail the future ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remake. Having released a preliminary list of games that will be shown off includingProject Triangle Strategy andStranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin,Final Fantasy 7 Remakeis noticeably missing. Here’s to hoping that it is missing from the line-up because Square Enix wants to make it a surprise.

Final Fantasy 7 Remakeis available on PS4, and PS5.
