Few game streamers have found the success of OfflineTV memberDisguisedToast, but his success rises to unprecedented for someone who leftTwitchfor Facebook Gaming in 2019. Oddly, however, DisguisedToast’s Facebook contract extends only to game streaming, allowing him to “visit” Twitch to talk with fans who may not be willing to try Facebook. Things took a surprising turn, however, when after one of DisguisedToast’s Twitch talks he ended up temporarily banned from the platform.

Before anyone leaps to conclusions about Twitch striking back at Facebook or anything of the like, DisguisedToast’s ban is likely for something typical. That said, since Twitch doesn’t provide specifics regarding its bans, it can’t be said for sure. DisguisedToast believes it to be because he was watching video clips, and one of the clips featured someone calling him a homophobic slur. Considering this is abannable offense on Twitch, it makes sense that it’d be the reason for DisguisedToast’s ban.

The duration of the ban isn’t provided, but considering this is DisguisedToast’s first strike in a very long time, it’s unlikely to be more than a few days or a week.Account strikesfor “Unmoderated Hateful Conduct” aren’t typically severe unless the context of the strike is serious or it happens multiple times.

While DisguisedToast isn’t going to be too stressed about the situation, as his Twitch account isn’t monetized and the ban doesn’t stop him from streaming on Facebook, it does have some negative repercussions. Banned Twitch accounts aren’t supposed to play games with other active Twitch accounts. As such,DisguisedToast can’t playAmong Usor other games with other OfflineTV streamers or they could be banned, too. DisguisedToast may be flying solo for a couple of streams.

One explanation for why DisguisedToast made the mistake he did is thatTwitch’s policieshave changed since he last streamed seriously on Twitch. In the past, Twitch was more forgiving of “accidentally” broadcasting slurs or insults from clips and images. Now, however, Twitch puts the onus on streamers to vet all content that they choose to share on their accounts, whether they be video clips or memes on Reddit. Even though DisguisedToast obviously wasn’t intending to share it, it’s his responsibility to ensure it doesn’t happen.

The entire situation is quite curious, in general. DisguisedToast has been doing Twitch broadcasts where he’s “Just Chatting,” more and more often. Some have speculated that he could be considering coming back to Twitchafter his Facebook contract ends. A short ban isn’t likely to impact his plans, whatever they may be, but it will certainly convey the message that Twitch has changed sinceDisguisedToastwas last one of the platform’s biggest streamers.
