There is a common myth in the video game industry that it is impossible to really deliver on a goodSupermangame, due in-part to the notoriousSuperman 64.However, a solo developer is working to prove that theory wrong with a game calledUNDEFEATED, which isn’t directly aSupermangame but shares a number of features with the powerful hero.
This is the debut title by the Japanese developer who goes by @UMA_Hero_16 on Twitter, and UNDEFEATED Games on Steam.UNDEFEATEDis a free-to-play title that initially released in 2019, and since then the game has received some positive feedback online. It works as a solid proof of concept for how to build a high-qualitySupermantitle, complete with a number of the Man of Steel’s signature powers.

From some of the early demos that @UMA_Hero_16 has shown via Twitter,UNDEFEATEDhas the most important abilities thatevery greatSupermangameneeds, such as flight and heat vision in the form of lasers. However, players don’t have to take the videos as their only example ofUNDEFEATED’s quality, as the game is available to try out for free on Steam. From there, players can feel the snappy flight controls and the unstoppable power of the game’s Superman-like main character.
It should be noted that since this game is an independent project being developed by a solo developer, this is not anofficialSupermanrelease, and the characters and situations involved are original works created by @UMA_Hero_16. The similarities simply make the comparisons an easy way to relateUNDEFEATEDto a relevant title that has Man of Steel fans clamoring for a game of this quality.
However, this title’s protagonist does have some differences with the standardSupermanset of powers, including aDragon Ball Z-inspired Kamehameha attack, giving players a fusion of Superman and Goku irather than a fight between the two powerhouses.
The game itself is fairly barebones, although it does prove as one of the best proof of concepts for agreat newSupermantitlethat players have seen in years. With only theLegoseries having nailed the character recently, it is comforting for fans to see such a realisticSuperman-like character run so smoothly on Unreal Engine. Hopefully, DC Comics and Warner Bros. will take note of @UMA_Hero_16’s work, which could lead to something like a licensed version ofUNDEFEATEDin the future.
UNDEFEATEDis currently free-to-play on PC.
