Far Cry 5has been out for a while now, but players returning to the franchise as more information aboutFar Cry 6is revealed or even those that are jumping in for the first time might be wondering about itsInfamous difficulty mode. This mode wasn’t in the game at launch, but an update in 2018 added it alongside a new game plus feature. While most difficulty modes don’t come with a special reward for beating them outside of a trophy or achievement, challenges as grueling as Infamous mode typically do. Players do get a reward for clearing the game on this mode, but it may not be what they expect.

For those that aren’t aware, the Infamous mode takes all the things that were already challenging aboutFar Cry 5and turns them up to eleven. Enemies will have more hit points and be able to take the player down in just a few hits. For those thinking stealth can carry them through this challenge, the enemy’s detection radius has dramatically increased as well.

Once players start a run on Infamous mode, they aren’t able to change it back down. This means that any run must be completed in full on this daunting mode. Those players that do manage to get through it will be rewarded with the Rook outfit, a unique uniform for the player to equip on their character. If that seems a bit underwhelming, many players in the community seemed to think so as well back when Infamous mode was released.Cosmetic items can definitely be great rewards, but in a first person game likeFar Cry 5, players only ever see their outfit when they die or in photo mode.

Aside from the Rook outfit, players will alsoearn a Ubisoft Club badge, and one that very few other players have gotten at that. Due to the intense difficulty of this mode, the Infamous difficulty is only available after players have beaten the game once. This way they get to keep all of their weapons, gear, vehicles, money, and other abilities, making Infamous mode much more manageable. Even so, players will need to be quite skilled if they want to come out on top.

More likely than not, the Rook outfit and a Ubisoft Club badge isn’t enough to justify players going through Infamous difficulty, so players shouldonly tackle this mode if they really want the extra challenge. Players can go through the story again on new game plus on any difficulty, so there’s really no need to play Infamous mode unless that sort of thing appeals to the player.

Far Cry 5is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
