Final Fantasy 14’s minions are one type of collectiblethe players adore. The game offers a great variety of options as to how to get them, giving some minions as rewards for the Main Scenario Quests, allowing players to get themthrough completing Wondrous Tails, offering exclusive minions through the Mogstation, or simply rewarding players with them for completing sidequests.
Some really fun or cute minions can be acquired through side content. This isthe case with the cactuar minion, which is based on theiconic creature from theFinal Fantasyfranchise, but it also applies to the adorable Coeurl Kitten and Wolf Pup minions. Any player who visits one of the game’s major cities certainly has seen others accompanied by one of these two, but whileFinal Fantasy 14might not make it obvious how to get them, it isn’t a difficult process at all - and here you will learn everything you need to do to add two new minions to your collection!
Unlock The Quest ‘Like Cats And Dogs’
The first step to getting these two minions is the same: you need to pick up the quest"Like Cats and Dogs"with Skribyld (X: 26.4, Y: 26.4) in Aleport in Western La Noscea, close to the aetheryte. This is a level 15 quest, which meansplayers usingFinal Fantasy 14’s Free Trialcan also get the minions.
The NPC will ask you to investigate the trafficking of coeurls. Still in Aleport, you will have to confront R’kontai (X: 25.6, Y: 25.9), then pursue her when she flees. Find her again at the docks, where she (X: 25.9, Y: 27.9) will be at the very end of the pier. Her bodyguard will try to protect her, but after a brief fight, she will tell you about the pirates' schemes. Go back to Skribyld where you initiated the quest to report what you learned.
Two quests will be available with Skribyld after that, both continuing this storyline. You can initiate them in any order or even pick up both at once, as the two quests will be available immediately. The first,“Man’s Best Fiend”, will lead you to the Wolf Pup minion. The second,“Curiosity Killed the Coeurl”, will unlock the Coeurl Kitten minion.
Complete The Quest ‘Man’s Best Fiend’
Pick up the level 15 quest"Man’s Best Fiend"with Skribyld (X: 26.4, Y: 26.4), in the same place you concluded the quest “Like Cats and Dogs”. Believing there is more to investigate about the pirates' animal trafficking, he asks you to go after R’kontai again. She can be found in Aleport,in the same locationwhere you initially met her (X: 25.6, Y: 25.9).
Talk to her and she will say she doesn’t have any other animals in her custody - except for a Wolf Pup she hid in Quarterstone, a region to the east of Aleport. She will give you a succulent bone and suggest you use it to attempt to win over the pup. Interact with the Starved Pup (X: 31.9, Y: 27.3) to use the succulent bone. When that proves to not be enough, interact with the animal again to use the Soothe emote (or select it and enter/soothein the chat) and it will decide to follow you. Go back to Skribyld where the quest started and report to him to finish the quest andget the minion as a reward. Don’t forget the item will be in your inventory, and you must use it toadd the minion to your collection!
Complete The Quest ‘Curiosity Killed The Coeurl’
The level 15 quest"Curiosity Killed the Coeurl"will also be available with Skribyld (X: 26.4, Y: 26.4) in Aleport, in Western La Noscea. When you initiate it, he will explain something needs to be done about the coeurls near Aleport that are threatening the populace as a result of the pirates' actions.
Once you get to the objective (X: 25.6, Y: 23.7),it will be revealed the coeurlwas killed by jackals, leaving behind a newborn. More jackals will come, so you must fight them to protect the kitten. After that, approach the baby coeurl to aid it, which will be enough for the animal to come with you. Go back to Skribyld to report and complete the quest, as this will give you the minion as a reward. Once again, don’t forget to use the item in your inventory to add the Coeurl Kitten to your minion collection!
