Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthexpands on its predecessor’s character roster. That expansion means several new combos for potential parties. Ideally, players should try all of them. Each character has unique strengths and weaknesses to suit different playstyles. That said, some are a must.
Certain party compositions are especially effective inRebirth. The best teams compensate for each member’s shortcomings. At the same time, they accentuate and combine their respective advantages. When fans understand these qualities, they can create deadly dynamics to leave the toughest foes in the dust. It’s a group effort.

Updated on Jun 20, 2025, By Joshua Leeds:This list has been updated to include recommended Materia for each party member for every composition. These are just base recommendations and won’t take up every Materia slot, leaving room for boost Materia so the party member can further fit into the role you want and to make room for summon Materia, which will often be switched around throughout the game.
Healing
Revival
The originalFF7trio is still the most reliable team. All the advantages surrounding Cloud and Tifa hold true here, just as they do above. Their two-pronged offensive is effective at both staggering targets and dealing damage. However, that tactic is easier with stronger support.
Barret makes for a solid backup in any situation, but especially so here. He can fill virtually any role required. With a few materia orbs, he can match Aerith as a healer, which is easy since his weapons have several slots. Of course, players can also fill these with offensive spells, filling up the stagger meter and exploiting weaknesses. Not to mention, Barret is comparable to Cloud when it comes to physical damage. His machine gun arm has numerous projectiles to create a destructive barrage. Their collective synergy skills make ample use of that physical prowess. All in all, the Avalanche team hits like a truck.

Magic Up
Hitting elemental weaknesses is the key to staggering an enemy and dealing even more damage. Staggered enemies take more damage, and further hitting them with an element they are weak to will only multiply the damage done. While this group will rely heavily on high-level materia, they will be heavily focus on offensive magic and always have a spell to hit a weakness and stagger an enemy.
Yuffie can be a bit of a glass cannon, but her damage output rarely leaves enemies alive to worry about her defense. Cait Sith is also a primarily offensive character, though with a few random elements to add to the character’s unique playstyle. Aerith can focus on supporting the party or just making sure they go all in on damage, and her Arcane Ward ability really pulls the whole party together.

Vitality UP
Cait Sith is the weakest party member at the outset. He has a few chance-based abilities, but low speed and defense stats impede him at every turn. Thankfully, he’s more viable once he summons his trusty moogle bot. Riding this toy amplifies his stats and grants him stronger skills. They can even separate into two entities, essentially adding another teammate to the field. Sadly, summoning the moogle requires an entire ATB gauge, and it vanishes after a few hits. However, this lineup mitigates that issue.
Cloud and Barret keep the pressure off, letting players make the most of this cat’s randomized moves. The former’s offensive and defensive giftsattract most of the enemies' attention. Barret provides additional aid in this area, and his projectile attacks can pick off any stragglers. On the slim chance that any monsters attack Cait, Barret has an answer to that, too. His Lifesaver ability absorbs any damage inflicted on allies and transfers it to him. Plus, his Steelskin ability reduces that damage to himself. This tactic means the moogle is always in play.

No longer is Cait Sith a glass cannon. He can now conjure more dice rolls and mystery boxes, yielding a better turnout. In return, he puts those gambling moves toward obliterating adversaries and aiding allies. This party is a wacky one, but it’s incredibly satisfying if the odds are in their favor.

Lightning & Wind
It’s tough for enemies to contend with the team while being attacked by a rabid dog. This party dispatches from a distance. While Aerith and Barret fire magic and bullets, Red XIII keeps foes busy, as hiscrazy claw swipes and spinning attack turn him into a mobile razor blade. Not only is he hard to pin down, but this approach is ideal for staggering. He has another use, though.
As weird as it sounds, Red works wonders as a projectile. Certain synergy abilities launch the mystic mutt at unsuspecting enemies. Barret throws him with his supersized arm; Aerith uses her staff to infuse him with magic and careen him across the arena. These skills demolish defenses, and players should have little problem pulling them off.

Red’s rapid-fire strikes — along with his friends' long-distance shooting — can fill up the ATB gauges with minimal interruptions. As such, they can activate their abilities over and over. True, becoming a furry pinball probably doesn’t fall under his life debt, but one can’t argue with the results.
Gravity
ATB Boost
Cloud, Tifa, and Red XIII are the three bruisers of the party, each excelling in dealing large amounts of stagger to an enemy who is open. None of them really excel with magic, though some magic should be used to open an enemy up for the real potential of this trio. With all of them focusing on stagger, it will often only require players to use a single spell to leave the enemy open to be fully staggered by the combined efforts of this party.
While healing and support are not a necessity, Cloud offers the most flexibility in this party to do so if needed. Tifa and Red XIII have some of the highest damage outputs possible, especially when paired together. While none of these characters are as tanky as Barret, they do all have fairly high amounts of health, letting this party focus almost purely on taking down the enemy.

With the right Materia, Red XIII can take on a more tanky role, which suits his play style of fighting up close and personal with enemies. Tifa and Cloud can also use healing and support spells to help Red XII survive in the thick of combat, while also jumping in to help take the pressure off of him whenever needed. This party is also very flexible in terms of focusing on magic or close combat, letting you build a powerful team of bruisers if that’s your preferred play style.

HP UP
A SOLDIER and a guerilla fighter are already a killer combo, but a ninja takes things a step further. Yuffie proves herself essential to any encounter. Much of that utility stems fromher elemental ninjutsu. She can infuse her weapon with magic, throw it at enemies, and manipulate it in midair to repeatedly connect. Basically, she can gear her melee strikes toward most enemy weaknesses. The speed of these mystical strikes can pressure and stagger targets in a few seconds, and the long distance means foes have a hard time retaliating. This strategy paves the way for a deadly offensive.
Any two party members will do for this offensive, but Cloud and Barret are the toughest. On one hand, they keep their targets' attention while Yuffie provides cover fire. On the other, they each have several abilities with tremendous damage. Said damage increases on staggered foes. When these two powerhouses combine their efforts, they can destroy the largest health bars. Such a perfect storm can bring down the most insurmountable monsters.

Cloud is more dedicated to close-range combat with Barret favoring ranged combat. Yuffie is able to jump between these two roles to fit whatever the fight needs, but overall Barret and Cloud can hold their own in any situation. Giving Cloud or Barret additional Materia to help them stay up in a fight will help further help them accomplish their goal in this party and keep Yuffie free from enemy attention.
Strength UP
The famous love triangle makes a capable team. This lineup lets players keep up a consistent barrage against their enemies.Cloud’s mighty sword strikesput even the most fearsome foes on the back foot, and provide a stalwart defense against reprisals. In addition,Tifa unleashes a flurry of fisticuffsto build up the stagger meter, while being fast enough to dodge any devastating counters. Their synergy skills only increase the pressure. For instance, Cloud’s sword can springboard Tifa toward an enemy, letting her reach even airborne foes. This dexterous duo gives their opponent no time to breathe. If enemies somehow get a shot in, though, it’s no big deal.
Aerith provides ample support from a distance between support, healing, and hitting weaknesses. Her weapon abilities boost her projectile magic while benefitting allies. These boons range from refilling ATB gauges to restoring the whole party’s health. Enemies don’t even stop her, since Cloud and Tifa’s relentless assault takes all their attention. That’s good since the flower girl is a fragile target with a pitiful dodge. Luckily, those weaknesses are rarely an issue with this trio.
