All signs point toForniteheading toward a massive game-changing event at full speed. The upcoming Galactus appearance promises to bring everything from a huge battle to thepossible return ofFortnite’s launch pads.
What is less clear, however, is what stateFortnitewill be in once the Galactus event is over. The current Marvel crossover is one of the biggest, most popular seasons so far, with tons of new, off-the-wall content being added. The question of whereFortnitegoes from here is on many players' minds. However, a good deal of info about the event itself has surfaced thanks to dataminers, and according to this a “black hole” reboot may follow Galactus.

Before the advent of the Marvel crossover, the “black hole” event was easily the biggest occurrence inFortnite’s history. As players played their regular matches, a black hole appeared and consumed the entire map. The game was unavailable for days afterward, with no explanation, culminating inFortniteChapter 2. Some info from one dataminer indicates that there will be some similar downtime after the Galactus event. This rings similar to the “black hole” event, and withthe countdown to Galactus active, players may be in for more changes than they think.
The downtime is not new knowledge, as the Galactus event takes place on December 1, but indicators point to Season 5 starting on December 3. If the game goes down during the intervening day, there’s a good chance it will come back altered. It was already known thatthe Galactus event will be huge, but this means there’s a real chance it could even reshape the map. The “to be continued” bit of this leak also indicates the Marvel crossover may not be finished, even if the current map layout is.
The fact that the Marvel event may continue may actually prove to be a good thing.Fortniteis considered by some to be a better Marvel game thanMarvel’s Avengers, and many of its changes directly relating to Marvel properties have gone over well. If it continues this way, it could open new avenues that regularFortnitecouldn’t tread.
A little map reshaping has also become a regular part ofFortnite’s updates, especially with its superhero-themed content. Hopefully if the map does undergo a mass reshaping, the developers willkeep what works while throwing away what doesn’t. A complete overhaul at this point may turn out to be ill advised.
Fortniteis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
