Fortniteis one of those games that still enjoys a lot of active users on a daily basis, and this might in part be due to the fact that it comes with season passes and new gameplay features with every new update. There is an incredible amount of skins currently available in Epic Games' battle royale, well over one thousand, and they keep coming in various shapes and forms. One of the most recent and mostsuccessful skins to release was the one portraying Ariana Grande, and many of the singer’s fans were very happy about the addition, especially because of how flamboyant and unique it looks when compared to otherFortniteskins.
Skins are one ofFortnite’s selling points for several reasons, including the fact that each of them offers a refreshing new take on the game, especially so if players also like any of the media from many of theFortnitecrossover events. As such, iconic characters like Marvel’s Loki being introduced into the game are often a no-brainer purchase for many players, which is what happened with the Rick Sanchez skin from the animated seriesRick and Morty. Now, Rick is finally joined by Morty thanks to the newest Mecha Morty skin that just launched, but the two share what could pose as a disadvantage in the game.

Is Fortnite’s Mecha Morty Skin a Disadvantage?
TheRick Sanchez skinwas introduced alongside the most recentFortniteSeason, aptly called Season 7 - Invasion, as the theme is all about aliens. As is customary for Epic Games, Rick’s skin was made available together with many others, including another notorious alien character in the form of Superman. Thus, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Mecha Morty followed not too long after that. The skin portrays Morty in a Mecha, which is very similar to that designed by the family dog Snowball in the “Lawnmower Dog” episode from the series.
The trailer for thenew Morty skinis also using the loading screen fromFortnite’s Mecha-based Season 10 in 2019 as a springboard, and then animates the whole thing with the cartoony cosmetic. The cartoony appearance of the Mecha Morty skin is precisely what ties it with the Rick Sanchez one from the battle pass, but the unique cel-shading look might play out as a possible disadvantage inFortnite’s battle royale matches.
This taps into the numerous debates about if and howFortniteskins can have an impact on gameplayin any significant way. While the general answer is that no, skins don’t have different hitboxes based on the character’s appearance in-game, regardless of body type, the disadvantage here is contrast. The issue could be that theRick and Mortyskins are both very distinctive, with their cel-shading making them more easily spotted because they stand out more.
Of course, the point for skins is that they should look different and eventually stand out from one another aesthetically. Yet in this specific case, it might be what makes the difference between a victory or a loss. This is not objectively true, however, it ultimately depends on how other players play the game and what they tend to notice more than the rest. Still,theRick and Mortyskins are arguably very peculiar, for better or for worse.
