Everything to Know About Storm Sickness

It is safe to assume that those reading this will likely already know aboutFortnite’s storms. If new to the game, it’s worth noting that storms have long been a core mechanic forcing players into tighter areas. The safe zone area continues to shrink as the storm expands throughout the map until a victor is declared.

It forces players to combat a time constraint and interact with one another in smaller windows. As of late, however, these storms have been exploiteduntil now that is.

Storm sickness is a relatively simple mechanic to understand. The way it essentially works and functions is by adding a debuff to a player who has entered a storm area. Inprevious iterations ofFortnite, the storm would slowly drain health from the player until they reentered the safe zone. Now, storm sickness acts as an intensifier for health depletion. Once infected with storm sickness, every time a player enters a storm area, the health drained will multiply, leaving little time for escape.

This causes a greater incentive to avoid the storms altogether. Once storm sickness has infected the player, the debuff will remain for the duration of the match. However, the player’s health will still only drain when in a storm area, so it’s not a death sentence outright.

This does prevent players from lurking in the storm and using health buffs to remain incognito. Gone are the exploitations of storm lurkers who will now have no way of stacking enough health in their inventories to remain in the storm. To put it simply, storm sickness escalates the threat of storms.

To avoid getting storm sickness, simply avoid the storm altogether. Sometimes, this can be easier said than done. But the player must wisely navigateFortnite’s mapand use any means necessary to get to a safe zone as quickly as possible.
