AppleTV+is quickly making strides to offer a body of content capable of rivaling other streaming services like Netflix and Amazon. Now, Apple has unveiled the teaser and release date for a new science fiction series titledFoundation,and the show looks ready to take viewers to deep space.
Foundationis based on a novel of the same name by Isaac Asimov and follows a group of revolutionaries in space knows as The Foundation, who predict the fall of their Galactic Empire and travel across the galaxy in order to save the future of the empire’s civilization. Asimov’sFoundationnovels were a success, with the original series releasing in the early 1950s before more books were released in the ’80s and ’90s. Other classic science fiction novels such asDuneandThe Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxywere also inspired in part by Asimov’sFoundationnovels.

Apple revealed on Sunday that the series will arrive on Apple TV Plus on Friday, September 24. David S. Goyer, who is the screenwriter of films such asThe Dark Knight,Man of Steel, and the originalBladetrilogy as well as a creator of TV series likeConstantineand Netflix’s upcoming adaptation ofThe Sandman, is the executive producer and showrunner ofFoundation. The series boasts an exciting cast of actors including Jared Harris (Chernobyl), Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Lou Llobell (Voyagers). The series was produced for Apple by Skydance Television and will consist of ten episodes.
In addition to continuing notable series such asSee,Servant, andThe Morning Show, Apple TV Plus has been greenlighting a slew of new projects, including the musical comedy seriesSchmigadoon!and aDan Harmon animated adaptation ofStrange Planet. The streamer is also making inspired choices when funding and exclusively streaming films like Martin Scorcese’sKillers of the Flower Moon.
Even with an already impressive line-up of projects, an adaptation of an influential novel such asFoundationis a bold move for Apple and its streaming platform.
