Genshin Impactis now well into its second major update, known as Version 1.2. This large patch introduced new characters like Albedo, while inviting players into the Cryo-themed Dragonspine region for all new adventures.
Yet despite all the new content rolling out with Version 1.2, some of the game’s existing features still appear to need some work. While fans of the five-star character Zhongli have been at odds withGenshin Impactdevelopers over the character’s capabilities, it now seems that the controversial God of Contracts seems to be exhibiting a new unintended feature, leading to even more tension between miHoYo and its fans.

In short, fans were originally upset thatZhongli was deliberately released as a weak five-star character, especially with regard to powerhouses like Klee, Mona, and Tartaglia. Since then though, Zhongli has received some nice ability boosts to make him a more viable character from the get-go, rather than a hidden gem unlocked at max Constellation Level.
Now that Zhongli has been buffed in different way though, sharp fans have taken note of an unintentional effect. It seems that one of his ability’s features is failing to work as expected, makingZhongli an object of attention on social mediayet again. Basically, Zhongli’s Passive Talent, “Resonant Waves,” is failing to trigger its additional “Fortify” effect, which is supposed to enhance a player’s Jade Shield (also generated by Zhongli) whenever it receives damage. miHoYo has announced that a fix is expected on an upcoming January 4 update, and that the update will also include a package of 100 compensatory Primogems for all players.
Since Zhongli’s initial release,miHoYo has given several responses to concerns regarding Zhongli. After initially dismissing them as misguided, miHoYo ultimately conceded to fans' demands that Zhongli receive the true five-star treatment. In fact, miHoYo not only conceded, but also even followed up with further promises of Zhongli buffs, and a formal acknowledgement of the fact that Zhongli is currently weak, even as a supporting character.
Given thatmiHoYo did eventually take fans' concerns into account, and take action to better the issue, this new Zhongli bug shouldn’t be all too much of a worry. There’s absolutely no reason to believe the bug won’t be fixed like miHoYo stated it would be, and the generous offer of 100 Primogems makes it clear that the issue is being taken as seriously as it should be.
Genshin Impactis available now on the App Store, Google Play, PC, and PS4, and is currently in development for PS5 and Switch.
