A newGrand Theft Auto 6leak has potentially revealed a weapon that has been missing from the franchise for 14 years: the chainsaw. Fans have beenwaiting a decade forGrand Theft Auto 6, but Rockstar Games still hasn’t revealed much about it in an official capacity. It’s unclear when Rockstar will giveGTA 6its official reveal, but plenty of information about the project has leaked online in the meantime.
Unfortunately for Rockstar,Grand Theft Auto 6was victim to a massive leak that revealed all kinds of details about the project. The leak confirmed previous reports that the new game would feature both male and female protagonists, and that it would beset in Vice City. It showed very early footage ofGTA 6’s open world action, and gave fans a general idea of what they can expect from the final product, whenever it might drop.

Now even moreGrand Theft Auto 6details have leaked online thanks to the LinkedIn profile of game developer Sayan Saha, a former Rockstar Games employee. Saha was part of the 2D UI team for variousGrand Theft Autoprojects at Rockstar Games, includingGrand Theft Auto 6. He mentioned in a now-deleted post that he created over 500 2D assets forGrand Theft Auto 6, including “interior prop labels” for items like a fire extinguisher, chainsaw, electric board, boat motor, and car engine. While it’s possible that the chainsaw can’t actually be wielded by the player, this does confirm that chainsaws will be inGrand Theft Auto 6in some capacity.
If chainsaws are truly back inGrand Theft Auto 6as this leak suggests, it will be the first time that the weapon has been featured in aGrand Theft Autogame since2009’sGrand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. For one reason or another, Rockstar opted not to include chainsaws inGrand Theft Auto 4orGrand Theft Auto 5. But withGrand Theft Auto 6being set in Vice City, it makes sense for the chainsaw to make its big comeback with the new game.
The firstGrand Theft Autogame to feature chainsaws as a potential weapon wasGrand Theft Auto: Vice City, with it used in one of the game’s most memorable missions as an homage toScarface- one of the chief inspirations for the game. This makes it seem even more likely that chainsaws will be inGrand Theft Auto 6, but the fact that they were mentioned along with “interior prop labels” could suggest that they are just objects players can see while exploring the game world but can’t actually be used as a weapon. Fans will have to wait for an official reveal from Rockstar Games to be sure about theweaponsGrand Theft Auto 6will have on offer.
Grand Theft Auto 6is in development.
