Hearthstonejust revealed Twist–a new ladder game mode that splits the difference between Standard and Wild. The nature of Twist meansHearthstoneplayers will always be in for a surprise with this rapidly-changing game mode.
Twist is coming to TraditionalHearthstone, complete with a new ladder players can climb to earn rewards at the end of each month. Starting in July,Hearthstone’sClassic formatwill be officially retired in favor of Twist, though vestiges of the retro game mode will live on in its successor.

The rules ofHearthstoneTwist are ever-changing. Acting as a middle point power-wise between Standard andWild inHearthstone, the Twist format will regularly swap to a new set of rules, restrictions, and eligible card pools, the particulars of which will be easily viewable in-game. These rules will often swap out with the monthly seasons, but players should expect some popular Twists to return or repeat for multiple months. Additionally,Hearthstonemay disable the Twist game mode from time to time to prepare for future seasons.
The firstHearthstoneTwist ruleset is called New Age. This evergreen Twist format consists of every card in the current Core set, plus cards from allHearthstoneexpansions fromAshes of Outlandonward. Future card sets will be added to the ever-growing New Age card pool whenever it returns in the future. However, the first run of New Age during theHearthstoneTwist beta adds an extra restriction: players cannot use any neutral cards in their decks.
The beta forHearthstoneTwist begins with Patch 26.6, expected to arrive on June 27. Players can climb the June Twist ladder for a few days before July arrives, after which they will have the entire month to experience the New Age rule set inHearthstoneTwist. Like before, players will only earn monthly seasonal rewards from their highest rank across Standard, Wild, and Twist, though they can still earn cards and packs from their Classic ladder rank in June.
To celebrate this new game mode,Hearthstoneis giving away a bunch of free packs via Twitch drops. During a 24-hour streaming event that starts on June 22 at 9 am PST/12 pm EST, fans can watch select content creators playHearthstoneon a preview client of Twist. Players who watch three hours from each of the eight-hour blocks during the event can earn a whopping nine free packs–one of each from every expansion usable in the New Age Twist format, saveHearthstone’snewFestival of Legendsset.
